Default ? about amps in floorboard.

ok ive been thinking and thinking about my new ICE setup. there just seems to be hardly any room in the car to put all my stuff and still keep it nice and clean.

im thinking about putting the amps in the floorboard in the front seats. had a couple of questions though.

when doing this are they just raising the floor or are they literally cutting the floor, welding, etc?

Zup dude. You have it right when you talked about cutting the floor and welding. That's basically what they do. They cut out a square shape in the floor pans, then they weld in a steel box, and you know the rest from there. If you don't mind ripping the car apart, and cutting holes in the floor, then go for it. You don't need a steel box that's really deep. Just something that's as deep as the width of your amp. You shouldn't have to worry about things coming up from underneath and hitting the steel box either, since it won't be that deep. Good luck...

Woah there nelly I am personaly an installer of car audio First of you dont have to cut a hole in the floor boards if you dont want to it is possible but would you want a 3 in extrusion sticking out from the bottom of the car i drag as it is. Rasing the floor is the easiest way and the cheepest way you make a couple of blocks up as support and put a 3/4 inch mdf on top for the foor boards then recarpet it after that your imagination can run wild Im doing plexi with interchangeable panels and a cover for when pasengers are in the car rasing the floor is one way to make a trick install and will score big points in shows if done right.

sorry i made it a little to simple of an explaination but i will try a little better if you want the most amount of space cut the carpet out and take any thing that will add highth to the install make box out of mdf that will fit your amps or whatever (wireing and crossovers here) and the highth of yoru amps add about a half an inch for cooling and put some fans (we have some people ask my amp shuts off after 30 min and its so hot i cant put my hadn on it) rolleyes.gif anyway now that you have your amp and box make a top with either 3/4 or 1/2 mdf there is 2 ways to go with either 1/2 you can make interchangable faces and your first dosnt have to fit perfect. Now you have your raised floor to make the face this you have to cut perfect as it will be carpeted. take your first panel and cut a sqare out that you want becarefull as this is where your plexi will go. find some 1/2" plexi and mount it with a couple of strips of wood on the edge of the hole (back side) the plexi will now drop in so if it gets scratched you can change it or you can have multiple ones sandblasted to change out. now the top panel you could cut a pattern out where the plexi will be or you could make it square again for sandblasted plexi peice. thats a lot better discription i belive if you have any more questions let me know

That's why I mentioned to cut the floor board. Raising the floor by that much wouldn't look right in a tib. But if you think it would look ok, then more power to ya. I know if it were my ride, I would rather cut the floor board out and weld in a steel box. And you don't have to owrry about dragging the box on the ground. It's not going to hang that low below the floor board as it is. Even with your air suspension pancaked to the ground, Long....you still wouldn't have to worry because your car doesn't lay frame. wink

Long..what about building an amp bridge? I know you have your subs built into the spare tire well. What about getting a bridge to hover above the subs? That way, you still have enough room for your air tank, and it will still be all custom. OR, what about building an amp enclosure in the back of your front seats? The seats might be a little stiff when you sit back in them, but again..it would be pretty custom stuff.
