Default Yet another noise..... (shocks?)

Ok, i know i really need to get my car into the shop and get it looked at. But i noticed that sometimes when i hit holes or somthing like that in the right front of my car it will make a loud thud noise, like somthing is pounding against somthing else.(only thing i could think of is my tire hitting the top of my wheel well) Could this be that i need new shocks or struts.... (noob question... whats the difference between shocks and struts)

I get it rarely on the left front... makes you think you just ripped off the front suspension right? I can only think it is a shock to the suspension that makes it hit the protective plastic or something in the wheel well.

how many miles do you have on your car? It might be a bad strut or like Mad said, something in that general area that may need fixing..

Have same problem, it's like somebody hits bottom of car (near front wheel) with a hammer (thud metal sound)

I noticed, that it happens when i slightly press brake and get into a hole (I know that it's bad to brake in holes, but sometimes it's impossible to see that cr@ppy holes :-( ).
Once it happend when I press accelerator and get into hole.

I don't think it's wheel hiting wheel well (tire wouldn't make that sound).

my cutty had the same problem and it turned out to be the strut... if i pushed down hard on the tire the noise was coming out of it made the same loud noise.. take it to a shop and tell them to look at it.. it was like 250-300 for two struts for my cutty... i dont know how much for a tibby

if i have to replace my strut i think im just going to buy all 4 struts. From what i've heard KYB GR-2 Gas sturts are good.... thats probably the route i'll end up going

not a bad idea... I would at least replace them in pairs as Shocks and struts do wear out in time.. having ONE good strut on a car cannot be a good ride.
