i recently had a 2.0l tib meltdown on me. luckily, i had a spare engine that had recently been pulled from a running car on hand so i went to work. later that night, everything is in place but the car won't start. it cranks fine but that's it. i've checked timing, it's fine. all the plugs are sparking. all the injectors have good spray patterns. i've changed out crank and cam sensors. i haven't been able to check compression, but i have no reason to believe i lost compression while the engine was sitting in a closed shop. i'm at a loss... any ideas ?

I'm gonna lean towards the compression fing02.gif

Its probably got to do with some sensor wiring, that's normally the problem after motor swaps...a ground gets misses, or a connection is loose

Does it sound like it wants to start at all?
Have you tried spraying brakleen in the intake? (more fuel)

this is the 3rd or 4th engine swap i've done on this tib.... i'm no expert, but i'm fairly familiar with the connections. sadly, i don't have a compression gauge available.

about the second revolution of the motor, you can hear what sounds like 1 cylinder fire. sometimes, on the third revolution you can hear it again. after that, nothing but cranking. as far as a lack of fuel, i had my fuel rail laying loose, with the injectors inserted. when i cranked it over, the guy standing in front of the car got soaked, from a distance of about 4-5 feet. if anything, i imagine it's getting too much fuel. i have no way to check fuel pressure though. i just know there's a lot.

OK, that seems good enough as long as the injectors are spraying enough which it sounds like you said they are. Its possible that it may be flooded by now also so maybe try to clear as much of that out as possible with flooring it.

I think you can borrow a compression set from auto zone or somewhere that does loaner tools. Theres usually no cost.

Could you add your location to your profile also. Might have another Tiburon guy in the next town that could lend a hand.

did you change the coilpack? Cel's? What does "meltdown" mean?

dude your in grayson? I'm in ashland. We go out there to go fishing every once in a while. Super bummed about the beach being shutdown. My little girl loved it.

Unfortunately I won't be out that way anytime soon and we are ridiculously busy, however if you need parts quick, I've extra of nearly everything right now.

edit: the only other option is to burninate it.
