What to do with 2003 4cyl Tibby?
Hello, I am a noob here but have been having great fun with my Tibby for the past 6 months - I have now decided to invest in various upgrades to make my car even more fun to drive.
First of all I would like to install some form of Cold Air Intake - for a small performance boost and hopefully a nicer sound.
My question is what is the most reasonable CAI system to install? I have heard about 'Randoms CAI' that sounds pretty neat, but I have not been able to find any info as to his design.
Also I have looked at the AOS intake system that looks good and resonably priced.
I will also be installing new exhaust system, lowering springs, body kit, strut bars etc... Recommendations would be very appreciated!!
A Turbo would also be nice but I have yet to see one for the 4Cyl Tibby.
Thanks for any help you can provide!!
Rin

Any suggestions for me? I have searched thru the forums and cannot find any details of the 'Random CAI' that sounds so awesome for a 'homejob'... if anyone has pictures or a link to the details I would REALLY appreciated it =)
Hey also, anyone here from Portland, Oregon area? Im moving out there next week and would like to find a Hyundai/Tibby owners group.

You should do some reading going back about 90 days. You will find several topics on CAI's, Turbos, exhausts, etc..etc..etc..
RS-CAI instructions
You really should decide on a budget, then a plan (turbo, supecharger, nitrous, Normally Aspirated), etc..etc... It will save you a lot of headache's troubles.

maybe because i can empathize with them, maybe because i've spent too much on n/a mods that do jack s**t, but i like helping noobies out with this. smile.gif ok, you can can certainly make a 4cyl tib fun to drive and sound pretty damn good with just bolt on n/a (nomrally aspirated) mods. however, if you're looking for daily driver reliability and some serious/super-fun hp, you should really look into some sort of forced induction (supercharger, turbocharger, nitrous). with an all-out gonzo n/a setup, you'll spend AN A$SLOAD OF MONEY ($6000+) and get about 190-225whp that doesn't last too long before you need to rebuild/replace/tune s**t. spend the $500+ on a cai and exhaust. the exhaust will help with the turbo, the cai won't, but it'll keep you happy for the present. this is the hardest part: don't spend the extra money you have. save it for a turbo (or other forced induction)!!! the $2700 (or whatever) cnk want's for his turbo is SOOOO worth it. there are other options for forced induction, cnk is just an example. you bolt that turbo on, you can get an instant 190+ hp. but that's only to start. wink it's not too hard to get 250 whp with a turbo. just ask batlord. for what you'll spend on an all-out n/a setup, you could have 300whp, daily driven.

have you ever seen a turbo charged engine? The CAI will not work simply because it was designed to fit directly on the IM. With a turboed application the pipe bends would not be right and you would never get it to fit~! Most turbo charged applications use a WAI just to the right of the EM. The intercooler makes up for its sucking in warm air.
thanks,
Andrew

4cyl, colder air would help with a turbo, it's just that cai's are generally used for n/a setups. when going turbo, the air filter is usually placed in the engine bay, but there's no reason why you couldn't try another setup.

An intercooler will reduce the intake charge to a % of diff to ambient.
So if you start with cooler air, you'll end up with cooler air.
