Has anyone ever hooked up an Autometer water temp gauge? It comes with a sensor to use but there isn't anywhere to put it in unless you replace the stock one and i'm not too sure which one that is. There are two right next to each other on the right side of the engine.
My next question is it okay to disconnect one of them or can i just tap into the signal on the stock gauge? Or would it be better to use the Autometer sensor and tap into that signal for the stock dummy gauge?
I'll try and take some pictures of what i am talking about.
Any info would be great.
Thanks
JD

so you do not like the stick stupid temp gage either? Sometime this fall I hope to be trying to figure that out as well.. the only difference, I am compleatly replacing the stock gages with Autometer
I'm also interested. I'll be installing a Dakota Digital water temp gauge hopefully this weekend, and since it's digital I was wondering if I'd run into any complications. Any help you guys could give me before I take on the project? I'll also be installing Electric oil pressure and voltmeter (no prob with voltmeter)
see, thiis is one thing i was never sure on. there is a temp. sensor, and a temp. sender. i know the ecu uses the...wait, i just figured it out while typing this and looking at webtech...
ecu uses the temp. sensor, gauge uses the temp sender.
you can get rid of the temp sender if you dont mind the gauge for it being inoperable. looking at the pic on webtech, id say it is smaller of the two. it will be farther towards the front. DO NOT remove the temp SENSOR(farther towards the back), your car might not even start.
do you have exact specifications on what temps. are identified by what specifications? like maybe a autometer online technical manual?
this could be as easy as tapping into the stock lines, but i doubt it.
found something else out. you knwo why the stock temp gauge in our cars sucks so much? its because it only puts out a total of 4 diff. values.
i guess you can say that the temp sensor(for the ecu) is a wideband switch and the temp sender(for the gauge) is a narrowband switch.
thanks for getting me to research that, i learned something i had always wondered about. lol.gif
