Alright, so..Im driving down the local highway (i695 for any marylanders), and I hear this sound that sounds like something unlocks and just falls from my car. and In my rear view mirror..I actually see something, at first I thought "Oh crap...what was that?" and I was sitting there, tinkering with the wheel, checking lights, accelerating..I guess to do a real quick mini-check to make sure everything "seems" okay. well, After a few hours..I get back into my car to take a friend home. after dropping her off, I head home...well! On my way home I notice that my Battery light icon is on, along with another (bad memory cant remember the other icon) anyway..then my temperature gauge shoots to the RED, So I pull over and left my car. had to call to get a ride home. anyway, long story..do you guys have any idea's on what might have caused it? I would think either the waterpump went up, or it locked. something had to cause it, any information is helpful! :?

did you look under the hood? It sounds like you lost a belt or one of the pulleys. The water pump and the alternator are on the same belt

well i went back and looked under the hood, and the alternator belt is gone, and the second belt that looks like it goes around at least the air conditioner compressor is not on the pulley's its just kinda hanging. the UDP was still in tact and the pulley on the alternator and on the A/C and everything. IT WAS dark out and we were only using a flashlight. Having it towed to a garage today. Any guesses?

I think I would have stopped to have a look under the hood when I first heard the noise, especially since you thought something fell off. IMO to keep driving after that without checking is just dumb. You could've fvcked your engine mang. You were very lucky there wasn't more damage.
