on the back of the volt meter there is a L and has a red and white wire (guessing power and remote for the light) then there are 3 screw terminals with + and - and one more that has a S. So to hook it up i attach the + and neg to the battery as well as the red and hook up the white to a switch. what does the S stand for and where do i hook it up to? thanx

 

The S should be for the source input. You just run a 12V wire to it. The + and - are for the lights in the gauge.

 

alright so i just run a pos wire to the S. so in total there are 3 wires that go to positive and 2 that are neg. correct?

 

i dont know what that s is for. there should be a total of 4 wires.

pos and neg for illuminations
pos and neg for the volt reading.

shouldnt be anything else. do you have a manual for it? or even a manufacturer?

 

well theres 2 wires and 3 terminals, maybe i dont need the S terminal. the guages came with a manual but it dosent say much about anything. there ractive ones

edit: i got the gauge working but the light isnt anyone know what im doing wrong?

 

well, what wires did you hook up, and to where? for the lights to work im guessing you want to tap into the stock illuminations wires.

 

I believe on my Autometer Volt gauge, there was 4 wires. 2 (+) and 2(-), I just spliced the 2 (+) and 2 (-) together and then ran 1 (+) and 1 (-) to a 12 volt power source. Everything works that way.

 

yeah, but the lights are always on, and you are not getting an accurate reading for the voltage because you are getting it somewhere other than the battery terminal. there is extra resistance when splicing into a 12v line under the dash. i know its not much, but it still is some. wink1.gif

 

well i havent really hooked anything up i just tested it to the battery and i tired just hooking up the wires for the lights and got nothing. maybe they wernt getting a good connection. could i test it on a 9V or would that be bad? do u know where and what color the wire is for the lights so when i turn my headlights my gauges go on as well. thanx

 

there is a green/white wire. it supplies power when the headlights are turned on.

the lights wont turn on when you hook them to a 9v battery because it cannot provide enough current.
