Quick question..

Would power train warranty cover a bad Dae Sung TPS? Or is that only covered by the full warranty?

It's covered until over 60K, I know that, I had mine replaced at like 63,000 miles under warranty.

Just to give an update.. Dealership said the sensor was not covered by powertrain warranty, would have been 150 bucks installed, or 75 if I just bought the sensor from them. If I wanted them to diagnose the problem to ensure it was the TPS (and clear the CEL), that would have been 230 bucks. Told em to screw off.

The deal is though, the TPS is covered under the 100K warranty by way of TSB. Technical Safety Bulliten. I posted the number for it and such some time ago. Have them look it up. or look it up yourself and take it in to them, should be done right there.

You can get a TPS from Autozone for about 54 bucks.

Yeah I know, thats part of the reason why I told em to screw off... 80 bucks to read a code off the computer and press a button to turn the light off is rediculous.

Edit: I just looked thru hmaservice TSBs and didn't see anything on the TPS for 2001 tiburon there.. Figured it would be under engine electrical, but I checked all categories just to be sure..

It's under TSB's, it covered my 2001.

Look on OUR site.

I even just bumped up the Stickied TSB Listing for you, it's listed in there several times as TPS Drivability Concerns

Here, I even spent 10 minutes looking for the actual thing for you.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (REDZMAN @ Dec 6 2005, 09:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Doesn't matter if it's not on there for the 2001. It's the TPS, not the model year.

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS) DRIVEABILITY SYMPTOMS
DESCRIPTION:

The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) output signal is an important input for both the Engine and Transaxle Control Modules. A malfunctioning TPS may result in the following symptoms:

Unstable idle
Uneven throttle response
Slip and shock during the 1-2 and 2-3 shift on Automatic Transaxle (ATM) equipped vehicles.
Erratic ATM shifts with possible shift flare (engine RPM increase during shifts)
Check engine light is ON (light may go off, but the code will remain stored)
TPS related code stored in the ECM and/or TCM
REPAIR INFORMATION:
If the following three conditions are met:

The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is suspected
The ECM / TCM has no codes stored
The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) has the words "DAE SUNG" molded on the part Then conduct the following diagnostic procedure:
Push on the side of the TPS connector, towards the dash panel. The force used should be firm enough to slightly deflect the TPS housing, but not enough to damage or break anything.
If the TPS is not operating properly, the engine will surge in response to your push.
If the Hi-Scan Pro or HDS is used to record the TPS output, the above procedure will show that the TPS output increases toward 5V when the connector is pushed.
If the ECM has a TPS related code stored (with or without the MIL on), replace the TPS.

Hmm, thanks..

Funny though.. As I was taking it into the dealership the CEL went on and the idling problem went away.. A day later the CEL turned itself off and the car has been fine since..

Yup, that'll happen with that.

Trust me, get it replaced. You don't want it happening at a bad time and getting into an accident.
