I noticed the other day (when I forgot my iPod and didn't have any CDs in the car... British radio sux so I don't bother with it) that there is a ticking sound coming from, what sounds like, behind the speedometer. It sounds like someone tapping a fingurenail against something hard... I can really hear it when I am only going 15 to 20 MPH, if I slow down, the rate of the tapping slows... and when I speed up, the rate increase. I took my dash apart to look for something that might be loose behind there, but I saw nothing. I tried listening under the hood in the engine bay and I couldn't hear anything either... but I think that it is because the car has to be in motion for the noise.

Any ideas on this? 02.gif

When you had the dash off, it was still there?

It's something in your engine I'd say. Probably your valves/lifters.

Check your fluid levels ASAP.

I am betting it is the gears for the odometer. While the speedo itself is a sealed electronic unit, something still needs to drive the odometer.
