my brakes were getting really bad and i knew they needed to be done, everytime the car was in reverse the back driver's tire would squeak horribly (it sounded really bad, it was just a high-pitch squeal though) and occasionally it would make a slight squeak going forward.
so i got new pads on all 4 wheels, and now whenever the car's in reverse it is this horrible grinding sound (almost like a bearing, but ONLY when it's in reverse..) it's really loud, sounds like i'm reversing over a hunk of metal and/or a cat tongue.gif
anyone have any ideas?

If it's only happening on one wheel maybe it's related to the parking brake mechanism. It could be seized up. You might want to check that.

Did you install the pads yourself or did you have a shop do it? If it was a shop perhaps you should take it back to them and have them look at it.

it is only one wheel.
weird thing is that before new brakes it was a high pitch squeak, i figured once i got new brakes it would go away so i never paid any attention .. but now it's worse it's like a grinding baaaaad sound.

rear wheel bearings are like 80 bucks at any automotive place outside of the dealer. VERY easy to replace.

can't say why only in reverse... but people do tend to go slower in that gear. If you have already replaced everything in the rear except for the bearings, what else can it be?

Maybe it's something rubbing a wheel?
After I changed shocks, ABS sensor wire were rubbing the tire. But it was noticeble ove 20 mph.

Had something like that....

My brake discs (rotors) weren't even after years of braking, and the little area that was higher made the sound when touching the pads .

Take the car to the shop and have them grind (?-dont know the english word...) the discs to make them even again.... or buy a nice set of cross drilled rotors!
