Default speedo troubleshooting

my speedo isn't functioning. i replaced the sensor on the tranny, and the speedo worked for two days, then quit. i've looked on webtech for testing routines for the actual guage/cluster, but the instructions suck. can anyone offer help on this? i don't get why it would work for two days after replacing the sensor and then quit again...grrr.

at least i'm not racking miles up on the odometer laugh.gif wink1.gif

Can't say you have the same problem I ran into, but on my 97 the connector for the gauge cluster had a dirty connection. Every time it would get cold (below about 20F) the speedometer would quite. I pulled it out and used a eraser to clean the contacts and it has worked good ever since.

Default Speedo Probs

Hey whats up guys....my speedo is dead too...although mine crapped out on me a lil different. On my old car it happened to me but it was because the speedo cable broke i thought it was the same with this one but when i was changing my cluster i didnt see a speedo cable just connector harnesses where the pod plugs into. Am i missin something? i havnet had a chance to get under the car to see if the cable just popped off but i dont think the tib works the same way from what you guys are saying. when i got the car the speedo was dead then one day it just started going crazy with the needle going up and down then it just died again and hasnt moved since ....could this be the sensor you guys talked about? or is there a physical cable that could have broken? thanks.

Your speed sensor prolly went out.

Take a look at webtech.

Just out of curiosity.. did you make sure the connections at the tranny sensor are still tight?

yea.. I see you are in NY.. you guys got hammered up there yesterday. Personally, as the new one only lasted a couple of days, I am leaning towards the connector being disconnected.
