Default spark plug wires

i did a search and found some things out but i was hoping that someone could just break it all down for me. first off im thinking about getting the 8mm msd wires, from what iv read they dont really give u any gains but they look good and i can get them for $40 CAN, also to install them on a 01 tib do i just take off the guard and plug them in or is there something else i have to do first? also if i leave the stock spark plugs in will they be fine? and is there anything else i should know before installing them. thanx

$40 CAN sounds like a decent price. Everything you said sounds right. You can change the spark plugs if you want, may as well if it has been a while. Only advice I would give is change the spark plug wires 1 at a time so you don't mix up the firing order.

actually it's hard to screw up the order, the spark plug wires are all different lengths (as long as you buy vehicle-specific ones that match the oem's)
meaning the place you put wire #1 could NOT go anywhere except for spot 1, etc. firing order really doesn't even matter in our case.

actually if you connect to the wrong spot on the coil pack it will throw off the firing order. So it is better recommended to do the plug wires one at a time.

I am pretty sure he means to make sure that you put the correct length wire to the correct place on the coil packs. That can be messed up. Yes they are each a different size but that only tells you which spark plug it goes to not which place on the coil pack.

Just replace one wire at a time. That way you don't have to worry about screwing up the order.

$40 CDN seems like a good price to me. I have not priced wires for the tib, but my last car was a 96 VW Jetta and I when I replaced the spark plug wires, Autozone wanted $96 US for OEM's. I paid $109 for Neuspeed wires. Damn VW's!

I have never replaced the wires on the tib, but every other car was very basic. Just make sure you don't damage the coil pack.

You can leave stock plugs in there when replacing wires but I don't see why you don't just get new spark plugs while you're at it. They're cheap (don't neccessarily go with that Bosch4 crap or any expensive plug while your on an NA set-up) and may need replacement if you haven't in a while.

Do wires one at a time (and plugs since you will need to remove wires to get to plugs...)

So take off spark plug cover (5 10mm bolts)
remove ONE stock wire
remove spark plug with plug puller (just find out what size bolt to use...can't remember right now)
then put in new plug to torqu specification
install new wire

repeat for next three!

One big thing to be careful is the spark plug cover when you put it back on make sure NOT to over tighten the bolts. You are only screwing into plastic and they can easily be stripped. Just FYI.
