Remember, just because you can bang through the gears faster does not mean you should all the time. It would appear that the syncros in our cars are a little fragile (from the number of people complaining about them) and by shifting as fast as you can all the time, you are going to wear them out quickly or at least quicker.

i also remember a post years back on the old shark racing boards abot a guy using a factory eclipse shifter in our car, and it had quite a bit of a shorter shift. wish i could go back through the SR forum database and find the post.

The old HA.com forum is still searchable, and that IS actually the old TSR forum. Go to HA.com's new page and click on the link for the old forums.

BTW, welcome to the site.

I would say B&M short shifter and Rside that you said in your first post are our best choices. I've heard lots of good things about Rside and alot of guys here locally have B&M (well like 3 guys actually) and they love it.

I thought you couldn't just cut your stock shifter down. I mean you CAN, but it doesn't really shorten gear shifting nearly as much as a short shifter because they part below the center of gravity on the shifter is still the same length so technically onlt your hand moves a shorter distance not the shifter...something like that. Short shifters are a good investment and make your car very fun to drive, I agree with whoever said don't drive your car like your racing all the time. It's tempting but it will mess stuff up in your car...

As far as prices between the B&M and Rside, I don't know off the top of my head but it should be really easy to find (ebay, kspec.com, etc.)

EDIT: I forgot about the Shark Racing one, supposed to be a good choice too (I don't know much about it, never seen it installed)

I always heard about cutting the baseplate to install the SharkRacing Short Shifter. I ordered one from SR almost a year ago (maybe a little longer) and it came to my door in a week. Thing is, I installed it with no problems and I didn't had to cut anything. I have been using the shifter for a year now, it's superb, works OK, I can engage any gear without problems (except the FVk..ng reverse; buit it's not a big hassle).
The SS I received looked exactly as the RSide Basic pictures, but howcome I could install that without cutting anything?
Have you any clue about this? Any other that installed their RS SS without cutting the plate?
(Sorry, no intention to hi jack the thread, but I think it's related to the first question).
