Rd2 Headlight Issues
Hey guys, I did some searching on the forum, but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.
As of about 3 weeks ago, only my low beams are functional. When I hit the switch to trigger high beams, the blue light comes on in the dash, but the high beams do not turn on. Instead, the fog lights turn off and the low beams stay on. Triggering back to low beam setting reverts to the proper configuration; low beams and fog lights on. As you all know, the fog lights are supposed to turn off in high beam mode, but I'm not sure why the low beams are still active and the high beams are not functioning. Otherwise, all lights on both sides are fully functional. Another note of interest is that passenger side fog light sporadically turns on and off (only when the fog light switch is toggled on)
Because it's been so frigid recently, I've not taken much of a hands on approach to really diagnose the problem. I've referenced the fuse diagram, but I can't imagine a bad fuse causing the issues I'm experiencing. I also don't believe both high beams would have blown at the same time, or if it'd even cause the symptoms I'm experiencing for that matter.
To make matters worse, starting today my car is illegal due to an outdated state inspection. Of course they test for high beam functionality, so I'd like to get this fixed so I can pass.
I'm not quite the knowledgeable Tiburon aficionado that many of you are, so I'm hoping you guys could lend me your ideas.
Thanks for your time!

If your low beams and fog lights are on when you activate your high beams, the fog lights do turn off until you deactivate the high beams. Once your high beams are turned off the fog lights will come back on.
Sounds like a relay issue for your high beams. A quick way to test it would be to swap the high beam relay out with the one for your fog lights since you know that one is working and see if the high beams work. If that doesn't work then try new bulbs.
Also for the fog light going on and off you can try swapping the bulbs to see if the other fog light starts doing it. That way you would know if it was the bulb or wiring issue.

Lows are supposed to stay on, they don't go off when turning on highs. We've already had this conversation in a very similar thread http://www.rdtiburon.com/index.php?showtopic=33349
There is only one relay box in the engine bay, on the driver's side, between the battery and the strut. It's either the relay, a fuse, or a ground/wiring issue. I doubt both bulbs went out at the exact same time. And yes, a simple burned-out fuse can perfectly explain your problem, the fuse for the highs is in that same box
Fog light problem is probably a wiring/connector issue

Fixed the problem. It seems both headlights were blown at the same time. Despite having seemingly ridiculous odds of happening, I think this is an all too common occurrence. I've read about it before on these threads, and if I recall correctly, it has in fact happened to me before. Something must be off in the wiring for this to keep happening...
So for those of you who are reading this thread with the same problem, don't rule out both head lights being blown. It does happen.
Thanks again to all those who helped.
