I have 2 8" subs hooked up (they were free, stop laughing) to an amp that pushes 65W rms X 2 and 170W x 1.
I'm wondering if you guys could tell me wether its better to have 2 subs at 65W, or 1 sub at 170W.
The amp is a Jensen so the actual watts are probably closer to 50W|150W.

lol forgot that part.
The subs are Punch 8" and are recommened 50-150W rms. At first I figured its too much power for 1 sub but it is jensen... i havnt heard much good about them.

go with 2 subs. as the suspension gets pushed further, it becomes harder for the cone to throw. You'd be better off distributing the power between 2 subs.

Thanks guys
They are only 8's so I know they aren't gonna be loud no matter how many or how much power is in it, but these are only untill i get my next pay-check or 2. I'm going to try bridging my amp tonight and see which i like better.
The only thing that really bothered me was wether my amp will actually push 170W because if it does thats overpowering the tiny subs by 20W. Doesnt seem like much but overpowering is overpowering right...

dude, I'm a firm believer that 8"s have their place in a good audio system. Just make your next bass speaker a 15" and you'll be squared away on your lows. 8"s provide higher pitched punch bass. 15s provide low rolling frequencies. Personally I'm just running a 12". it's a good compromise between deep and high bass.

Hmm, something to think about, thanks i appreciate it. My Jensen amp has output on it so i can pass another amp through it. Maybe I'll get a little stronger amp and just run a 15 off it like you say.
I've looked around and I dont think i really trust bestbuy or cartoys for good advice on this stuff. Anyone able to suggest a good amp brand that isnt way expensive or way cheap?

I'm happy with my Xplod. It's not the type you buy in walmart. it's a 1400W class D amp. You can buy them online only. Type Class D amplifiers are the only way to go for a dedicated low amp. They're resoloution is only good for lows and it's a very efficient amplifier with low noise. Whatever you get, if you're only using it for lows, get a Class D amp.
