No it's a guaranteed fix for PS belt squeal. Try it for a week or two.

Some good pumice hand soap works well also.

But... Check your alternator belt tension also. Loose alternator belt will cause the PS to make noise. Wierd, huh?

^^^he's right, check both tensioners first. The alternator tensioner and the power steering tensioner underneath the car. Also, if you have recently changed your headers you probably need to loosen your power steering pump braket and pull on it towards the front bumper then tighten the other two tensioners.

Belts get hard after a while. If the belt is cracking anywhere, just buy a new belt. Make sure you tension it correctly. An old belt will squeel. I replace mine every 30-40,000 miles

He already said he bought a new belt. So I would go after alternator tension next. See where that takes ya.

Good to see you stopping in also. fing02.gif

if you must know...

I use Irish Spring,lol.

my gf's car sqeaks all the time, even after new belts and the tensioner set a few different ways, still squeaked. let the soap rub against the PS belt, squeakies all gone.

just a old mechanic trick i picked up along time ago.

^^^ correct!

its really just the paraffin that is in soap or crayons that stops the sqealing is all.

I believe it'sa 12mm line wrench. Tighten the power steering connections between the soild lines and the hose. they tend to come loose. Also change the copper ring on the pump as well. just look for anywhereon your power steering circuit that is oily/not dry. Other than the belt(tensioning is a given), the only 2 things that cause squeak/ splippage if oil escaping and air getting in. This alters the pneumatic function of the pumping system causing the pump to get "stiff" at times

you can buy some fuel injector/carb cleaner spray and spray it under the belts. it'll go away for a few months. when it comes back, just do it again.
