Power Difference Betai Vs. Betaii

Something I have been trying to explain to myself and couldn't because I have not found enough information, or what I found searching is not clear enough is this:

The 2.0 BetaI has a mild intake cam, when switched to a little (with emphasis on little) better cam as the 1.8 it improves noticeably.

Now, the OEM 2.0 BetaII intake cam is even better than the BetaI 1.8 (in duration, lift and advance), but still the BetaII NON CVVT comes with std. power of 140HP just as our tibs.

Took superficially you could think that with a few mods, the BetaII could jump faster than a BetaI in power (due to the better intake cam), but it does NOT, it jumps bit by bit as a BetaI... so why is this? There has to be an explanation as to why a BetaI with the intake cam of the BetaII gains power while the BetaII makes almost the same as the BetaI.

I know the question sounds stupid and maybe the answer also is, but risking myself to be owned by a stupid question, here I am asking to get to know something new...

ive been wondering the same thing. As a side note, im trying to find a black 01 tib rolling chassis to drop a beta II into. And i was curious about all the aspects of CVVT and how it works. If anyone is familar with SRT4's, part of mopar turbo toys there is a little button that you can press that uses vacum to shove fuel into the cylinders and some how lifts the cam profiles, or the valves to say act like "vtec". So im curious can CVVT be turned off and on? And can it be used to an advantage like that of the SRT4? I was once told it was used by oil presure over the valves but I still dunno.

It is because the heads flow like shit. In specific the exhaust side of the head flows like shit.

As far as cvvt, it is not like vtec or the mopar version of vtec. our cvvt is a fuel economy deal not power.

so basicly theres no difference in exaust cam's in the stock beta 1 or 2, only the intake cam.
the beta 2 intake cam is best but since beta 2's have crappy heads u can only go downhill changing out the the intake cam to any other stock cam?

then the best setup would be a beta 1 head with a NON-CVVT beta 2 intake cam and a stock exhaust cam?

well rather its a cvvt head or not it dosent matter if anything you will get better MPG by using the cvvt. its NOT going to hurt your performance.

beta I,II have bad exhaust ports, true.. there is a nasty almost 90 dregee angle on that puppy, and the only way to remove it is not to port it but reshape the port itself. because if you port it out too much you will go in to the water jacket..

also beta I are HLA and Beta II are bucket shims this way you always get the same amout of lift no matter the rpm. as where HLA tend to have inconsinstes in lift due to the shock absoring of the HLA and valve surgeing when you run high lift cams..

If you look at a vtec cam you will kind of see. That question could be answered with paragraphs but basically it just uses a different lobe to change lift and duration. Can be controlled a lot of different ways. Just about every manufacturer has some type of variable valve timing now. Theres tons of vides and diagrams on how it works

And yes you can disable cvvt by disconnecting the cam phaser. It can be controlled with oil, vacuum, or electric

So... if understand right... our heads are so crappy that exhaust flow limits the capability to make more power...

But still, let's focus on the NON-CVVT Beta2; it has a better intake cam (and we know the better intake cam produces results on the Beta1; so it should get reults on the Beta2) and I am just remembering now... the Beta2 has a different exhaust cam right? So theorically, a Beta2 with the bigger Beta1 exhaust cam could get those missing HPs that we don't see even whenit has a better intake cam...
can it be the reason? That the exhaust cam is too mild?

Mad-john, do you have any info it this is possible? I would guess it's not really worth it in terms of performance gains in light of the extensive head work TDonnel did with limited results (limited meaning he got gains, but not as big as we might have guessed).
