Default oxygen sensor output in millivolts

1. is this needed to tune ?? or can you use a traditional ricer LED A/F guage ???

2. does the apexi SAFC2 have a millivolt readout of actual O2 sensor output ???

The problem is that the display values will change so fast, it will end up looking like .888 all the time (assuming it's a live feed and not a sampled feed).

Yes, just any old A/F gauge will work for basic tuning, but you should use a wideband for any kind of forced induction/nitrous tuning.

It not really posible to do a good tune without a wideband. Not to just resay what Random did but hooking a gauge up to a heated narrowband sensor is about a acurate as putting your hand infront of the exhaust pipe to measure EGT.

so than the item I posted about from ebay, the Dyno Tune O2 sensor reader is garbage ????
the following is in the item description
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>You can use it to tune for cruise as well but it takes some practice reading the display. With a perfect 14.7 to 1 A/F ratio the display will cycle up and down

example Case #1 “ .800 .300 .750 .250 .850 .200 etc…”
This is the perfect example of the perfect ratio.

Now if you see this “ .900 .750 .800 .700 .900 etc….” this would tell you your running rich during cruise.

If you see it run on the other end as follows “.300 .250 .400 .500 .375 etc….” Your running lean during cruise. You make adjustments to jets or fuel pressure to make sure the display cycles as in case #1.

Running wide open throttle should result in readings as follows “.900 .905 .908 .910 .911 .911 etc…” it should be very stable! No jumping around, rock solid….</div>

so is this false info ????? will it really read .888 all the time ??

ah "f" this, Im just gonna rig up my oscilliscope from here at work and connect about a mile of extension cord so i can plug it in and drive it down the track hanging out the window, Im sure I cn analize the O2 sensor voltage with that ?? what do you think ??

so what types of widebands are available and how much ??

is this what im looking for ?

The oscilliscope will be jumpy too tongue.gif. Why deal with an extension cord? You can just buy a power inverter laugh.gif:

The problem you are dealing with.. the stock O2 sensor is a narrow band. it sees Rich, lean, and Stoic... that is ALL it sees. It is like having a three way lightswitch with Stoic as off... but in order to keep the light off, you have to quickly flip the switch up and down past it.

The solution is to weld another bung into your exhaust and install a WIDEBAND 02 sensor that can acutally see the variations between rich and lean.

so the bosch O2 sensor in our car, only puts out 3 voltages ??? are you sure man ???

ok ok, so than how do you hook up the blue wire from the safc to the oxygen sensor, is it worth it, and is it accurate, in one of the links i added here, the guy said, the sensor puts too much load on the sensor, and its been know to give false readings

damn so a wide band o2 is crazy expensive

whats about the AEM one how much does it go for ??
http://www.aempower.com/product_ems.asp

so after thinking about it some more, if I add some NOS to the picture, and lets say i have the safc hooked up and tuned to a non-NOS situation in all the settings hi-throttle, low-throttle, and cruise, if I were to hit the NOS, lets say on the highway in 4th gear,
how does the safc2 know Im hitting the NOS, wouldnt it be too lean all of a sudden ????
or is the o2 sensor reading and extra-leam condition, and adds more fuel ????

PLX devices have great widebands. Check ebay, they go for around $315 shipped.
