Sorry John but your explanation of the Sporty Package didn't make any sense to me. Is the gearing for the Sporty package a close ratio gear set or something?

 

Mr Mad_John, which model/year is those breakdowns of the gearbox from?

Mine is slightly different at the end of input shaft under the lock nut,
and the part number for the output shaft taper bearing is different.

I'm looking for 1997 2.0 gearbox.

Looking at those gearing ratios, it seems that the 2001-2003 Elantra or 2003 tiburon transmission would be a better choice for our cars. Lower first and higher 5th.

let me see if i can get the paper copy of the parts catalog for the rd1/2 and all it has is just pics and part# and they are in english as well..

I went and had a chat to the dealer, turns out the digitised (online) versions of the parts catalog are of the newer models.

So we had to dig up the old book and photocopy the gearbox pages, got all the info to match part#'s to locations now.
