Default Oil Leak

Hey guys,

I have had trouble pin-pointing the source of a possible oil leak. I know it's pretty much impossible for anyone to help without pictures and I'll get those up when I can, but maybe if anyone had the same issue they could direct me in some way. . . .

Basically it looks like engine oil is leaking somewhere around/behind the distributor cap. There seems to be a small leak in the valve cover gasket, but I don't think that's the primary source as there seems to be quite a bit of oil building up around the tranny and dripping off from there. . .if anyone's had something similar happen to them any advice/word would be helpful.

Thanks

(I'll try and get the pictures posted tomorrow in the morning when there's light)

You mean the coil pack? Distributorless ignition is distributorless.

Possibly one of the camshaft oil seals, or just a rocker cover gasket that is busted near the coil packs

Also what stocker said.

step one, clean out your engine bay from all oil

step two, spend $5 on UV dye

step three, rent uv dye detection kit or wait until night and use a decent blacklight

step four, eat flapjacks

Stocker - Ah my mistake. . .funny thing is I initially was typing coil pack but then I didn't want to look stupid by calling it that when I wasn't too sure of what it was. . .lol FAIL on my part.

wheel - I did install a 1.8 cam a little while back. . .I followed the diy and it said all i needed was a valve cover gasket. . .could you elaborate on the rocker cover gasket and the cam seal?

faith - I suppose I could just pick up this rental kit/dye at any auto parts store?

Thanks for the responses guys.

The two humps at the ends of the valve cover need a fresh seal also, or they may seep. Cheapest method of detection works best: clean very well with rags, then paper towels with alcohol until head is clean. Then drive & see where it gets dirty.
