Alright. So tonight i finished putting my exhaust in. SSAUTOCHROME headers with thrush glasspack no cat/resinator.

Sounds pretty good, except i got a few leaks that i have to weld tomorrow.

Smells really rich, got no o2 sensors hooked up. Got no cel either. <---- prob why.

I do not have a bung for the second sensor.

Just wondering, my front o2 sensor is bad, can i hook up the rear in the front bung and just wire it together?

And is there any other side effects of no o2 sensors. Besides the richness, smell,CEL.

Like horrible gas mileage? etc?

Thanks

ok it will run wierd without the o2s

infact it will run like ass

connect the front o2 if anythin it determines how rich/lean to make your car run

the rear only checks to see if your cat is working

good. Cuz the front is the only bung i got for an o2 sensor.

So i will be fine without the 2nd?

I just need to know if the front and rear are interchangable?

haha nice try man but no.

two sensors in our 1997's. one in front of the cat, one behind. one in front controls air/fuel ratio meaning with it off the car will run and sound like a pig's ass. The rear sensor is made only to test if the cat is doing its job and nothing more. The two sensors are completely different and have completely seperate jobs!

your car will burn up oil and gas like a V8! And it will be twice as slow! I'm going on Tuesday to get my shiz in. I've got headaches from the gas smell, my eyes burn, and I'm punishing my car. If you don't have your O2 Sensor in, you could damage your engine and the computer will get the wrong readings, CEL or no CEL.

go to www.autopartswarehouse.com and buy yourself a brand new 1997 Tiburon 2.0 OEM Universal BOSCH O2 Sensor and tap it into the connecting wire. I just got mine in yesterday from them for like $50. It's really easy.

How do you not have a bung for your second sensor when you're asking to take the rear sensor and put it in the front????? lol... doode, if it's in there than you must have a bung haha.

if you don't have a bung, front or rear or one of the two somewhere, meineke can do it for like $20. no sweat. no big deal. same with flanges. i thought that was a huge problem but flanges, pffff haha... any friggin shop can connect pipes with any flanges.

Alright. Sorry for being such a newb... jeez tongue.gif

Will go buy a new o2 sensor locally for like 50.

Thanks again HKC

I eliminated all my stock piping / cat.

Downpipe / flex came with first o2 bung. No bung for 2nd one.

np np, i'm going through this right now actually. don't buy locally man, they will over charge you like crazy. Advance Auto Parts charged me $165 for the same sensor.

autopartswarehouse.com has an application chart asking whether you want the sensor before the catalyst or behind and the trim (1.8, 2.0) for your car. so it's best to get something you know where it's going.

ok, and one last thing before you shop, you want the sensor applicable to the date of when your car was made. check your door panel for the date and check with the store.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (97Tibby @ Aug 22 2005, 05:46 AM)</div><div class='quotemain'>Alright. Sorry for being such a newb...</div>it's okay, try searching next time. Plus I know I've told you like 1000 times (even in the shoutbox) you throw your first o2 in the bung you said you have thats in the header and the 2nd o2 doesn't matter!!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Will go buy a new o2 sensor locally for like 50.</div>How did you break your sensor in the first place? Why did you keep talking about your first o2 sensor if it was broken all along? durr...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Thanks again HKC</div>Yes, he gave you all this information but if you would have used logic and searched this site you wouldn't need to have 10 million of these threads open

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I eliminated all my stock piping / cat.</div>Duh?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Downpipe / flex came with first o2 bung. No bung for 2nd one.</div>WTFBBQ? you got a separate downpipe AND flexpipe WITH your 1st o2 bung? that statement makes NO sense.

Why did you say so many times that you had an o2 bung in the header for the first o2?
You need the first o2...I thought that's what you've been doing all along?
How do you break a sensor?
Searching would tell you that missing the 2nd o2 does nothing but give you a check engine light.

Now let me tell you what you have to do ..
Whatever the deal is with your first o2 sensor, you NEED IT, put it in a bung SOMEWHERE, I can't understand your typing so wherever you have an open bung, put your damn 1st o2 sensor there.
After that, if you feel like throwing a cat in, buy one with a built-in o2 bung AFTER the cat and throw the cat anywhere AFTER your first o2 sensor.
You NEED the first o2 sensor, the 2nd o2 is optional (CEL is only thing you'll get).
One o2 goes BEFORE the cat, one AFTER the cat, if you have no cat don't worry about the 2nd one?

Got it?

And that ban is rightfully deserved.
