i'm actually not sure if its bolted or welded,but i'm pretty sure my mnaifold isn't cracked anyway. just out of curiosity why would the dealership have to replace it free of charge?
also what about a glasspack? would there be any benifits to one of those,and would the o2 sensors still work properly?

Dealership replaces it because it's a recall, so they have to replace it free of charge.

If you want a scanner, you could go buy one from a local auto store, or if you want something fancier order one online. I got mine for $98 and use it almost daily datalogging and scanning codes. Friends pay me $5 to scan their car an unlimited amount of time. I've actually made a decent amount of money doing it.

yeah i think my next tool will be a scanner,but i don't have the cash flow atm,school takes a big chunck out of the wallet and even more so when you have an 8 month old daughter haha. oh well...i'll be making the big bucks soon when i get out welding.i'll have to check and see if the cat is bolted up or welded up.

Another way to check if the cat's clogged: Drive it around until it's at operating temp and nice and warm. Pull into a parking lot or somewhere you can get out of the car and look at the piping right before the cat. If it's clogged bad the exhaust/cat should be a glowing red or an orange color.

if my cat is clogged would a glasspack be a reasonable replacement option?

no opinions on glasspacks at all?

No, it'll probably throw a CEL, best to get a new cat, if that's what your problem is. The O2 sensors will send the wrong info to your ecu and potentially make it run worse. There are O2 simulators out there, I just can't remember where.

well, it depends cause that was a recall but, ummmm, i think if it's been repalced by a factory dealer they might not do it.

so its only for 99-02(i think read it but forgot quickly) that they welded the cat/manifold together? cool so i don't have to think about that and i can get down to fixing the car haha. car didn't go to the shop friday like it was supposed the gf fell asleep and never got it there,oh well monday is coming. and won't be touching the car this weekend the gfs dad has his grand marquis on the hoist in his garage(which is where i work on my car) for at least a week so i won't be able to get a start at cleaning that bay anytime soon.

Cast iron manifolds will crack, unless they are properly designed. Have a very close look at yours before you call it good, because the cracks are more often hairlines in hidden places, than gaping holes.
