hey guys need some help.i have a '97 tib fx when i bought it the cel was on but car seemed to be running fine...well after we put gas in haha. anyway jumped into the car this morning to go get my windshield put in and the car had a bit of difficulty starting, but it was very cold this morning.anyway on the way to town i started noticing that the only way the car would accelerate is pedal to the floor which i found odd but the car wasn't dying by any means engine wasn't making any unusual noise clutch was grabbing still a reasonable amout of power when i needed it.
after getting the windshield installed i started off on the way home, everything seemed the same as when i had dropped it off,car revs fine in nuetral and first but shift into 2nd and ur hard pressed to get it to 4000rmp,then going up a hill at full throttle in 4th the revving at 4000 the car just losses all power, rpm start to drop, and with that speed goes down and i'm crawling up the hill at 60kmh.get over the crest and onto a flat(or downhill slope) and the car starts revving back to 4000rpm,then out of no where the car makes it to 4200,musters its way to 4500 then bam power and it takes you from 80kmh to 120kmh getting up towards redline shift into 5th and the rpms drop again and you're struggling to keep moving at 100-110.

the only thing i've done to the car which i'm going to change out tomorrow is i put a cone filter on but it's directly on the maf(not sure if there's anything majorly negitive to that). i drilled out a hole on the back of the filter for the sensor to go,it seats nicely no chance of a leak at all.i didn't remove the lower portion of the stock intake yet if that would matter. i know its a long post but i was trying to be as discriptive as possible.hope you guys can give me a hand. i want to get that cel read but that windhield cleaned me out of expendable cash atm.

did you put the maf in backwards? What code is causing the cel to be on? if you dont have a scanner go to an autozone or advanced or whatever and they will read it for free

How 'bout Crappy Tire? They might be able to read it for ya.

And yeah, try to get a closer, more focused shot of the MAF, may help us to help you better.

yeah i can try canadian tire and see what they say haha. the arrow on the maf sensor is pointing into the elbow.i just looked through the cotm '09 thread and found sparticus's(sp) car and using it as a reference mine looks to be the same direction,if you squinte REALLLLLLLYYYYYYYY hard you can see my arrow points in.
you can see the bottom portion of my intake in that pic...is there anything in the bottom portion of the intake that would cause anything at all,or is it just tubing down there?

....looked at pic again, holly crap that bay is dirty

yeah it's pretty dirty in there,it looked like that when i got it from the previous owner. i have to get in there and clean but it's winter,i may get to if not it'll be done for spring.
i'll try resetting the ecu i guess it pretty possible since i've dissconnected the battery a few times doing random bits. hopefully i'll get a chance today after school and before work, but if not my next to do it would be sunday which isn't cool.anybody else have any suggestions?

Probably not it but easy to check: if the catalytic converter is clogged it will have a hard time getting up any engine speed. Does the exhaust seem like it comes out the tailpipe okay? Maybe you get a lot of exhaust smell in the engine bay, if it comes through the cracks in the exhaust manifold (they commonly crack).

Also, when *my* car didn't want to go it was because the brakes were dragging.

brakes are all good, the exhaust seems to be coming out alright but i was thinking of checking cat,as far as the manifold i haven't really had the hood open while i was running the car so i'll have to check that out too.cars next oil change is at 200,000kms. trying to find a place where i can get the codes read cheaply
