This is my little survey for you RD1(1996-1999) Owners that bought the car brand new, or bought it close to brand new. I bought my 1999 Hyundai tiburon FX with 55,000 miles and it has over 100,000 miles now. So I am not considered an old rd1 driver.

1. what grade of oil did you use. What brand?
2. Did you perform required Maintenance stated in the owners manual?
3. Was the car driven hard?
4. Does it burn little or alot of oil? (ex. 1/2 quart in 3000 miles)
5. How many miles does your car have when you bought it?, How many miles does it have now?
6. what year is your car?
7. Did you use Hyundai Geniune Most of the time? if not, expensive Aftermarket brand or cheaper Aftermarket brand? (ex. Cheap off brand spark plug wires, or expensive Bosch spark plugs)
8. how many Major or Minor problems have you had that is not your fault?
9. On wear and tear items (ex. Clutch, brakes), how long did they last?
10. Mostly City or Highway driven?
11. Automatic or Manual Transmission?

Since I wrote this, I will answer to for example.

1. 10w30 Conventional, Numerous Cheap brands (Supertech(Walmart) , Autozone brand)
2. Yes
3. No, Yes when Neccessary
4. Burns 1/8 quart every 3,000 miles
5. 55,000 miles , 100,000 something miles
6. 1999
7. 60,000 mile Tune up, all Geniune Hyundai Parts, 90k miles Tune up Cheaper Aftermarket, 120,000 mile tune up will be Geniune Hyundai parts.
8. 1 Minor, Window Actuator
9. Clutch, still have original Still strong. Brakes(cheap brand) last 35,000 miles
10. 55% highway 45% City
11. Manual transmission.

Thanks!

I am the original owner of my car.. even though I bought it with 1500 miles on the clock and was there when it was driven off the truck. Judging by the odd things my non-FX has.. it was some sort of factory mule as engine and drivetrain parts for a 99 do not fit (IE, I have a 2000 oil pan with it's different sized drain plug)

1: Mobil 1 at 10W30. I change between 5 and 7 thousand miles.

2: I am pretty good about maintance, but I am still running the original fuel filter.

3: Car has never been raced, but I do often take it to redline on a daily basis.

4: Almost no oil. I never have to top up between changes (I also drop 5 quarts in when I change too)

5: 1500 miles new... 116,000 now

6: 1999

7: I rarely use Hyundai parts.. but I am believer in you get what you pay for.. so I buy good quality and expensive parts.

8: Transmission went at 30,000. It self machined itself to death. Wheel bearings (both sides and one rear) and the airbag light came on. I did also lose the dash lights, but that was the dealer's fault.

9: Replaced tyres at 60,000 Brakes at 70 and 100 Thousand. Did the brake lines too. Still on original clutch.

10: little to no city driving.. highway and backroads.

11: Manual Trans.

1. Castrol Syntec 10w30, every 3-4000 miles.

2. Yeah, i've done everything except the fuel filter and tranny oil.

3. Yes in the earlier years of ownership. Nitrous also.

4. Burns a little. Never refill inbetween though. Only 4 quart when changed.

5. 200 when purchased. 79K now.

6. 97

7. Majority of the time, Hyundai. Wires are the only thing other than the cai

8. Tranny went out twice. First time my fault with neutral drops. Second was faulty rebuild from Hyundai

9. Chaned rims every other year. Brakes only changed once but in need of now.

10. Both. I take it highway a lot and city a lot.

11. Auto

putting it in neutral, revving the car up.. and dropping it directly into drive.. the automatic equivilant of side stepping the clutch. Very bad for the transmission and something you should NEVER do to a hyundai tranny

I dunno why I'm doing this but I'm bored.

1. Various Brands. 5w-30 to 10w-30 I change it evry often (less than 3K).
2. There was an owner's manual?
3. I'll admit I don't drive like a grandpa.
4. Burns absolutely no oil.
5. 80K, now it has an INACCURATE approxamation of about 129K miles.
6. 1997
7. Whenever something needed replacement I went aftermarket. (to EXCEED OEM specifications).
8. Lost count, but really every problem with my car is MY fault.
9. My clucth is startng to give at 130K, everything else works like new (even ater abuse).
10. Like 75%highway
11. Manual

1. Castrol Synthetic Blend 10W30
2. Yes, for the most part.
3. Taken to the track a few times, but not really hard other than my daily driving.
4. None that I have been able to notice.
5. 23K when I bought it in May of 2002, 75k now.
6. 1999
7. Only on specific Hyundai parts, like the gaskets and emissions stuff.
8. Absolutely no major problems, I had my Air Conditioner relay go out, but that isn't major.
9. LOL, still going. I probably should change my breaks sometime soon even though there is still alot of pad left.
10. Mostly City
11. Manual
