I wanted an under axel for a long time too. The clearance is soo tight, especially for a 2.5". Also, if I were you I would go with 2.5", don't you have nitrous?

Have you seen the pictures Chris posted when he was working with Hotshot for a 2.5" under axel? Unless you can get your hands on an Apexi, the amount of money and work required to custom make a mandrel bent under axel design right would be too much.

My 2 cents..

I just don't know. I've got a couple of days to decide. Hopefully my parts get here tomorrow and I can have the exhaust built on saturday. It wouldn't be that much of a big deal to get it done, so I'm not worried too much. They will have to raise the car and build the exhaust so that when the wheel is bottomed out, it just bearly touches the exhaust.

also, we're talking about mandrel bends, not a full mandrel exhaust. The straight portions would be welded.

post pix of your underaxel exhausts, please?

whoever you have do your welding, ask for people that have had a exhaust done by them. i've seen some pretty shotty weld jobs and then i've seen great ones.

oh yeah, ask if they use mig or tig for welding.

go tig, way prettier, more control especially on pipe. problem is most exhaust shops only use mig.

I can't seem to find any shops that use mandrel pipes here. I called 10 places. They all crush or ridge the pipes.

I think I'm going to go with a local bender. As long as it's the smooth type I'll be fine with it. It will be an upgrade from the 1.8" crushed pipe from Hyundai still. I can't wait much longer as I have an exhaust leak and it's driving me nuts.

You might wanna read some of the other Exhaust threads here, backpressure isn't what you think it is.

2.25 is nice for a stock car, but trust me, if 2.50 works this well for me at THIS elevation, you want 2.50 also.

My exhaust has been on for what, 3 or 4 months now? Not one scrape at all. I've also jacked up my car and taken the wheel off, and it didn't hit the exhaust.

I AM lowered too, don't forget that.

Z I made the decission to go with 2.25 based on your 2.5" pipe. I know you are planning to go turbo soon. My car is staying naturally aspirated and a daily driver. I don't use nitrous on a day to day basis, but I wanted my pipe larger then stock because I have a few light mods, I am at high RPM quite a bit and also I shoot nitrous every once in a while. It won't compare to the load your turbo will be putting through your exhaust, so I decided 2.25" for aproximately 160hp normally/220hp nitrous should be alright.

Has nothing to do with me going turbo. I had this exhaust done for R&D for the KFX exhaust, and that's the size it's going to be.

I'm NA, and at 6000+ feet of altitude, and I run at high RPM's all the time, and it works great.

Point? There's no reason to go with 2.25, and it may actually lose you power.

Turbo in the future has NOTHING to do with it my man, not one thing. I'm talking about NOW. My car is NA, and besides head work, I've done just about all I can to it. It runs like a dream, and like a bat out of hell, with a 2.5 inch exhaust.

Hundreds of members here can't be wrong man.
