I was wondering if any of you have had problems with your low fuel light. I know it's kind of a trivial issue, but I've noticed that my low fuel light has not come on since I've had the car. I've become curious and tried to run it about as low as I dare to without running out of gas. The fuel gauge will get all the way down to "E" and the light will not come on. Then I fill the tank up and judging by how much it took to fill it up, I still had over 3 gallons left in the tank. So I replaced the fuel sender, and the gauge accuracy seems to be much better, but the light still will not come on.

So here is my question: How much fuel is generally left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on? I've been told by a tech here in the shop that only about a gallon is left when the light comes on, in which case I haven't let it get down far enough. Before you tell me, I know it's bad for the fuel pump to let the fuel get down that low, but this was for testing purposes. So I'm either not getting down far enough to let the light come on, or the bulb is burned out. Any help would be appreciated.

i see mine go on when it is running through the red zone section. When ever i see the light go on, i am able to pump like around 12 gallons and the gas pump would stop.

Ur light should come on and like whenever its near the red section and ur on a hill or in a turn, the light should come on then go away.

I have a feeling either your light is gone or maybe some sensor thing is messed up.

Thats normal. When you hit E on the Tiburon you still have like 5 gallons left, it takes like 50 miles after you hit E for the light to come on.

I have the same problem.

When I was changing fuel pump, I took fuel pump assembly out of tank and connected to see if "low fuel light" would come up. But it didn't.

get yourself like a 2½ gallon gas can. put it in your trunk and then just drive.. either the light will come on or the car will stall out. haha

the 2½ gallon gas can would be for the stalling out part. haha

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I have had this car four two years now and got it to E and a little under but never seen the Low fuel light even on a hill or turns.

Well, like I said, I replaced the fuel sender, and still couldn't get it to come on. Finally, today, I was very much in "Empty" territory on the gauge, and the light finally came on. First time I've seen it come on since I've owned the car. I'm not going to push it too far because I don't want to run out of gas, but at least I know it comes on now. Guess it was the fuel sender after all.

My low fuel light comes on about 25-40k's (depending on driving) after hitting the 'E'. Then I've gone as far as an extra 50k's with the light fully on, I reckon I could get nearly 70k's before it runs out.

I think you guys don't realize that that light doesn't come on until you REALLY need gas. Do what sparticus said, you'll be surprised how far you can drive after you've already reached "E"
