This is my first post, so please don't be too harsh on me. If this post could have gone someplace else, I do apologize. I have a 97 Tiburon with the 1.8L backed by an automatic transmission. I have tried to hook my car up with an intake several times, and am becoming frustrated by my results. I first rigged up a short ram intake using a cone filter and some tubing. I really felt no gains from this modification. Besides, this thing looked terrible under the hood. I took it out and tried an AEM. This would have been great except I have a revision A Tiburon, and I really don't want to take the canister out. Besides the AEM people I called told me not to. I then tried an AOS racing automatic intake. The temperature sensor will not reach the tube. So I am unhappily stuck with a K&N filter in the stock air box. So I suppose my questions are: Is there an intake that will fit my car? How about Weapon R intakes? I have a Custom Composite ram air hood. Is there any way to utilize the holes in my hood for an intake? Thank you for your help.

The AOS SHOULD fit, I don't quite understand why it doesn't. As for taking the Canister out, AEM is telling you not to because they don't want to be held responsible for anything that you might sue them for. Several folks have done this, to include our own Blacktibs, and it works fantastic with no problems. Do that if you want some performance.

Otherwise, the only other intake that would work for you would be a home made CAI of some sort. You could make one of those hook up to the nostrils in your hood.

Welcome to the site mang, hope you enjoy.

BTW, don't gett the Weapon R, it's the worst intake ever.

Get a piece of 180 degree bent pipe (summit sells this) and get some rubber couplers (www.hosetechniques.com) and basically make your own, with your own specs and bends smile.gif

Enjoy

Just curious, what is so bad about the Weapon R? Supposedly they won some kind of dyno contest on a Civic Si.

Maybe on the Civic, it's the absolute WORST intake for the Tib.

Cysco has one, I laugh every time I see it.

It's also a WAI (Warm Air Intake), so there's loss of power right there.

I'm just trying to make some kind of good use out of the ram air holes in my hood. I thought that maybe a short ram would be best suited for this. Maybe it's useless. Thanks for your help folks.

Nope.

Best thing for those holes in your hood? It'll keep your engine temps down.

// yeah just keep the hole open to allow air to flow over your engine....you probably could make a ram air intake......but it'd have to sit right above your exhaust manifold = BAD.

you'd have all the heat from your headers/manifold rising straight up onto the bottom of intake where the filter would sit. Hot air = loss of horse power.

Yeah, you can also get the hood kit to raise the hood closest to the windshield and allow more air to flow through.
