The thing just died...and then shot back to life again. Strange.

Its dead now but Im sure it will start working again. Why is this happening?

have you taken apart the cluster lately?

 

check the speed gear of the tranny. and replace it. also check for any wire damage on the jack, ie "rust on the connection pins" fing02.gif

 

this is very similar to what happened to mine. pull the plug off of the speedo sensor on the transmission. make sure all three pins are there and that none are loose. if it's the sensor, it's very easy to replace. you unscrew the old one, and screw on the new one. if one of the pins corroded off in the plug, it's a real PITA to clean out the plug. i put dielectric grease in the plug and it worked.
