Default Header question....

Ok i got a lil problem. I had my friend who works for hyundai install my full exhaust and headers today. So he got the exhaust on fine but he said because my car is california regulations instead of federal regulations compliant there is no way that he can install the header without the cel goin off. Because of the precat thats on the manifold and the o2 sensor will go off if you take it off. Now i dont really know too much about this. So if anyone knows what i am talkin about and knows of a way to make this work. Help would be apreciated. Thanks in advance

putting on a header takes out the #1 cat. what will need to be done is put a bung in the header (#4 pipe [if there isn't one already there]) and extend the 2nd 02 sensor past your #2 cat. #2 cat will become #1 cat...

doing that shouldn't throw a CEL

Silencers work, but they restrict exhaust flow. It kind of defeats the purpose of buying the exhaust, and it only lowers it by 8DB or so.

You need to buy a high-flow catalytic converter of some kind that matches your exhaust. Then you can redo the o2 sensor bungs. In the meantime I would drive with just the exhaust. Driving without any o2 sensors is bad.

Even if you get a high-flow cat, you probably won't pass CA emissions. I have a friend that failed the emissions in CA with one stock cat. They have the strictest laws in the U.S, and pretty much since the U.S is one of the strictest emissions countrires, strictest laws in the world. You should have looked into that before you bought the exhaust system.

If you don't live in Cali, use only one cat...check with your local emissions first though.

Sorry, assumed from your post that your Tib was cali-emmisions that you lived in Cali. All Tibs are built with two cats, your Tib is no different then any other Tib in the U.S.

Just buy a high-flow cat off of Ebay. Carsound is a good brand. Shouldn't cost you more than 50 bucks. Then rewire the o2 sensors and your good to go.

Put in the header and cat, then extend your wires and remove the second cat...like was mentioned earlier and hopefully you won't throw a CEL but if you do, you can allways go to Autozone and they will scan your car for free. I don't think there's a way to stop it though....best thing to do is to make sure your O2 sensors are clean, located properly and take it from there.

Trust us doode, we've dealt with this a LOT.

Either search thru the forums and see that this is the same solution to the same problem for years now, or listen to your friend that doesn't know Hyundais for shizzile and get rid of your new exhaust.

I'm locking this. You have your answers mang.
