HDK Aluminum Flywheel
I decided to go over there and check the site out for the first time in a few weeks and i look at the flywheel again and noticed this
Quantity in Basket: none Code: LWAF Price: $149.99 Shipping Weight: 3.00 pounds now 3 lbs is a little light don't you think....how much does this beast weigh? also on the front page, it says something about if they dont' give you a tracking code or ship it w/in 7 days, the shipping is free and 5% is taken off....are they finally turing out to be good to us tuners w/ prompt shippng? |
The weight of that flywheel is 11 lbs. The 3lbs is their "shipping" weight...

If want a aluminum flywheel, wait about 3 weeks, I'll have my Fidanza flywheel done for the July of 1999-2002 Beta engines.

I wonder how much abuse that HDK aluminum flywheel can deal with. If it can put up with some power, I might consider picking it up. -Red- |
i'd like one myself, as the price is defintiely right.
If only they are made for the 1.6L alpha's tranny... And if only i could trust HDK to get it to me. |

Either it's a stock cast but using aluminum, or it's a cast iron part like stock that's been lightened. I can lighten my own flywheel (it's at the machine shop now doing just that) but that wouldn't make it an aluminum part. Guessing from the weight, if it WAS a stock part that was machined down then it would be fairly weak. -Red- |
If the HDK flywheel is aluminum make sure it has a wear plate and the location of the fasteners holding the wear plate down is important. If you want one for the pre 1999 just call fidanza and tell then it is the same flywheel, but just a different pilot ID and send them one to copy. It would just be a change by going into proE and altering the drawing and resending the machine program.

I know it would be expensive, but, would it be possible to make a carbon fiber flywheel? if so, it'd be light as a feather and strong as steel. so, is this possible/probable?

I am willing to spend my money to develope a lot of parts, but I don't have enough to do a R/D program for a carbon flywheel. I'm not saying it isn't possiable, but it would cost more to design and build than a new F355 Ferrari. I imagine that it could be done, but at a extreme cost and man hours.
