Guess What Went Away Today?
^^ If the cat dies and the sensor is not there to tell you... yes, it does effect the air we breathe.
This is the first time I have ever heard of someone not wanting an o2 sensor because they didnt want a CEL IF the cat dies.
How expensive are high flow cats $20-50? If it dies, get a new one. The tail pipe sniffer will catch you anyway and you will not pass emissions... it will be a surprise to you... and you will have to fix it anyway (and the shop owner now knows you are using an illegal device to prevent obdII codes).

Yah it will effect the air after the cat goes bad, but i wouldnt have to replace it right away and i could get through emissions. 20-50 bucks? yah right, a shop will quote you at around 200 most likely, just for the part. I got a great deal on mine but i doubt i could do it again if i had to.
Good thing we dont have the sniffer tests in CNY, no cel + working lights = pass
Where i go? no lookie under car, no lookie under hood, nothing.
Also wanted to do it because people said they didnt work

Its expensive in the long run to get a new cat each time anyway. This is sort of a temporary fix. Let him do what he wants..hes not making all the pollution in the world..theres guys in Florida (no emissions) that do that lol
haha yea we have some really messed up cars down here... they'll smoke up a block and nobody cares. even though its kinda nice not having to deal with the whole emissions hassle, when i see some cars down here i wish we did have the tests back.
Can anyone explain how they wired this up?
I put the same unit in my old 1.8L Tib and the second O2 harness went into the car through a little grommet near the shifter. I can't seem to find the sensors harness in my RD2 though.
Any help will be appreciated.

Well thats a wonderful attitude. It's just me, so it won't make a difference. Same attitude the hundreds of thousands of people in the US running bad catalytic convertors have.
So, let me get this straight. You have a cat, but are afraid that the cat will go bad and it will throw a CEL?
First FYI, its not 200 for a cat. You can probably get a part out cat from anyone on here for cheap, a stocker, for $30 or so. Cats nowadays are well designed for good flow, going to a high flow really isn't going to net any gains or increase the backpressure enough to cause problems. EBay ones are just as cheap, dunno where your gettin $200 cats from. And its not like they die every day. A shop will charge you $20-30 maybe to weld in a bung if the cat you have already doesn't have one. Easy enough to do the wire extensions yourself.
Still don't understand the reasoning for spending $24 on something, when you could have paid the same price and had it in the way it should have been, and know when the cat is starting to malfunction well before it frys itself.

I for one am for clean air. If Hyundai Imported a Diesel, I would buy one and convert it to bio. While I will admit that the simulator is a decent "quick fix" it still does not address the fact that your cat is in the wrong place and probably not getting hot enough to work at all.
Personally, I wish you would fix it right. While I can only speak for myself, I am pretty sure I lean in the same direction of most everyone on this site. We like to breath and RDTiburon does not endorse working around your emissions related systems.
it's also illegal

Find me a good high flow cat (2.5 inches) from an exhaust shop for less than 200 bucks installed, OEM on a 2.5 inch exhuast and right after a turbo? no thanks...You think i just made that number up? thats the rounded DOWN number the shop gave me to buy from them. I told them no thanks and that i would find one somewhere else, which i did, and it was a pain in the ass.
Your not seeing all the reasoning to do this. It wasnt just to save the money of not putting the sensor back in, i did not have the sensor at the time or the money to buy a new one and get it put in. I am going to put the sensor back into the exhaust in the right place AFTER i put in my wideband that is on its way as we speak.
But the reasons i did this are as follows:
To know that it can be done, aka that these things arent just a rip off, so people in florida could know they can remove the sensor and not be plagued with a CEL
To know have a fail safe in case i have to pass inspection and dont have time / cash to fix a blown sensor or a used up cat before the inspection goes out
To make sure that if something else went wrong with my car before i got home to put my sensor in the exhaust ( i was at college at the time remember, and my 2nd 02 sensor was 200 miles away) i would know about it because my CEL would come on, if i didnt do this the CEL would already be on and i wouldnt think anything was going on; For a newly turbod car u NEED to know if somehting goes wrong so it can be remedied, instead of just not knowing about it and driving 200 miles with a ticking timebomb.
I am also for clean air, which is why i CHOSE to put a cat in there when i could have just put the simulator on there. And my cat is in a perfect location, its a foot or so from the turbo, its fixed right, the car would just think it wasnt if i didnt have the simulator on there. The air that comes out of my exhaust is clean, you guys need to calm down about this.
As soon as i get my clutch back together which is 5000X more important than how you guys want MY second 02 sensor wired in there, Im doing my wideband, and the 02 sensor while im at it. I have reasoning to my actions, which were in the best interests of my car and myself.
I find it funny that people have no problem telling me what to do about my 02 sensor but cant seem to find my thread pleading for help with my clutch install. You think i care about my 02 sensor right now? i havent driven my car for 3 weeks.

A good high flow cat for less than 200 bucks installed is easy. Pick up a catco or carsound hiflow cat on ebay for $50-60 shipped, which has the bung built in, and get it welded on in the stock location at a muffler shop for $50-80. You could probably even use exhaust clamps, I have seen people do that so they can switch to a straight through section of pipe at the track.
