Screwdriver, I agree that its not normal to get something more than 28-31 MPG but I have on more than one occasion broke 40MPG. We had this topic like 6 months back on the old site and I had to argue my ass off for anybody to believe me. Finally after proving that I know the proper way to calculate gas mileage and the support of some other members, people listened.

Both times I drove to upstate New York from Philly, PA area, I averaged over 40 MPG. NOw that is strictly highway driving. So thats about 550 miles of highway just cruising and another 60 miles of mixture. I was not going like 40MPH and following a truck. This was normal cruising at about 55-65 MPH. So it can be done and has been done without doing some kind of extreme economical driving.

Also I know a person that owns a prius that gets WAY better gas mileage than 40MPG. Shes gotten 50-60+.
So Im with Redz on the prius issue. Im guessing your uncle doesnt know how to drive a hybrid car to help him economically.

In essence, you've agreed with my arguement. I never said higher mpgs weren't possible. I simply said that >31-32 mpgs cannot be had under "normal", everday conditions.

As far as Hybrids go, read this. You'll see that, once again, while 50 mpgs are easily attainable, real world driving figures vary.

the lowest ive ever gotten was 25. this was right after i put my exhaust on too. ive touched 38 once. average is around 29 or 30, with a little spirited driving here and there.

i dont even want to know what it is after i get my car back together. im going to have to rid myself of this crappy truck driving. saevil.gif

But you are still wrong, because I get it, under normal driving conditions, every day.

Only time I don't get that high is if I leadfoot it around after a new modification.

sorry man, your Myth has been busted.

Yea dude and check this out. This proves what I was saying about your uncle and not knowing how to drive a hybrid car for best gas results. Click here From what it sounds like it takes time and an honest effort to work, but it does.

I'm sorry, I don't agree. What's more, my "myth" is in line with EPA estimates.

My uncle may be a dumbass, but he's not the only one who gets lesser than estimated mpgs out of his Hybrid.

Congrats to both of you for getting such astronomical figures. fing02.gif

I tach the Tib up pretty high and still get 30mpg daily... city/highway. And I let it idle and warm up every morning for several minutes. If I jumped in the car, didn't let it warm up like normal people do, I could get Redz' average easily.

EPA is wrong sometimes, it all depends on where you live. The condition of the air, altitude, weather conditions, and the condition of the car all play a humongous role in gas mileage.

How could his "estimates" be wrong? Gas mileage is simple division LOL.

But that's exactly what I'm getting under normal, everyday conditions. My gas light comes on at 10 gallons, and I'm almost always over 300 miles on the tank when that happens. By the time I fill up with 10.5g, I'm often at 325-330 miles.

And even when I floor it all the time from every stoplight, and go 80mph on the interstate, I still don't get under 25mpg, more like 27-28. I also know that my odometer is 100% accurate. There's nothing to disagree with, my numbers are fact. I'm even anal anough that I have a notebook in my glove box where I record my mpg at every fillup. Along with the gas brand and grade I bought, and whether I had been driving around town, highway, or mixed. My daily routine consists of 30 miles on a highway at 55-65mph, and another 10 miles or more or stop and go in the city at 25-35mph.

Aside from ensuring the items Dmitry mentioned are in good shape, I think modifications like less restrictive intake and exhaust may contribute to people getting over 30mpg regularly. But I still think the ECU could have a more aggressive fuel curve for some people, resulting in lower mpg.

Ehhh, here's some Prius sites on MPG...

http://homepage.mac.com/priustech/Pr...toAlbum25.html

http://homepage.mac.com/priustech/Prius/Personal26.html

From looking around at some of the other sites too, it looks like most folks, 90% of them, that own a Prius, get 53 to 89 Miles to the Gallon.

Your "Myth" may be in line with EPA estimates, but my ass is in line with my legs. It doesn't matter, estimates are just that. Estimates. Looks like their estimates were wrong.

Sensible mods have brought me up some. I'm doing great.
