I was quoted at $550 for stage 2 pnp. That price is the guy sits down at the bench and starts grinding, head would already have to be clean. $10 per seat for oversizes seats so there is $800 already. Plus valves, seals, new springs for you new cams, prolly want to do guides while your in there. Lucky for me I can do all the head work myself just need to buy parts and pay the guy for the pnp which is done at another shop. When time comes I'll be ported to the max! N/A all the way, maybe some nos later!

It is a bit expensive, but you think it's too much with all the work they are doing? Not to mention, 16 flow tests (Why so goddamned many?)?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jaws021 @ Jun 2 2005, 12:40 PM)</div><div class='quotemain'>i agree...
with that price.. it should come with a bj.

18hp for 800..that's not bad. you pay 500 for a cat back and get like 10hp
hotrod, you have a GT cam? what were the gains like when you put that on? do you need a piggyback?

Well, while that could be true, mods are mods. Some help out with others. I wouldn't get headwork done on a stock tib, that's for sure. So someone with some decent mods, this would be worth it.

i agree.. this would be a mod for the extremely nutty people on this forum...
then again.. we are the same nutts who dare to use nitrous.. so we have other ways of using 1000 more efficiently.

Anyone with intake headers and exhaust..
use the 1000 dollars and get yourself an SAFC and some cams.. that combo should yield more power..
Leaner mixture + lumpier cams should fork over 10%.

People with basic mods saying that the pnp job is not worthed is like a 15 year old saying that buying clothes for his futur kids is not worthed.....
You need cams to really benefit a pnp job. 1000$ for a good job, is ot expensive at all if the guy knows what he his doing...a 2-3000$ head job is not something that is uncommon rolleyes.gif
10% gain on an n/a setup can be quite nice....when you have all the bolt-ons, cams and a good piggyback at least. Let say it will give you 10% improvement...what other n/a mods could you do to get that, maybe pistons but they are as expensive.
Also, a pnp job result will greatly depend on the shop's/mechanics expertise and knowledge.....you can be in a worst position after than before...You need flow AND velocity...often mistake is to maximise flow at the expense of velocity.
Waitig for a dyno test of a pnp job on a beta is quite pointless :
- The car on the dyno probably won't have the same setup as you
- The pnp job is made by hand and therefor, not constant
- Dyno results would only give you a slight idea of what it could do...but nothing you can rely on for your setup.
It's funny that people always want dyno results before making a purchase even if the results have nothing to do with the results you will get...since most dyno runs are made with modified engines to increase gains. Independent dyno (user) are rarely done before/after with a stock base. Stop waiting and experiment!!!!!!!

Moved to general performance.
No reason for this to be in FS, unless there is enough interest, but as of right now its more of a discussion. If you guys want to do a GB for this, let one of the mods/admin know and we will move it back.

You can't really compare the price/hp of head work to that of an exhaust setup for example. Sure, spend $400 on an exhaust system will net you better price/performance ratio, but you can't expect to get the same price/performance for every dollar you spend on your car. Of course the smartest thing to do would be to buy a CAI, BBTB, IM, full exhaust system, cams, piggyback, nitrous, but what do you do after you have all that for NA? This is where the inevitable law of decreasing marginal returns comes in to play - the more power you try to squeeze out of your engine, the more it'll cost.
Not a bad deal imo, especially for turbo at 30+hp gain.
