With my caprice it was 500 and well worth it. But yea up to that price range.

Yes.There are tuneable mufflers made by a company called Supertrapp.I plan to get one.

First of all, you can get quiet exhaust that is high flow. (My car is proof...though I don't have the sound files hosted anymore)

It doesn't have to be loud. In fact, too large diameter pipe and too high a flow rate can REDUCE performance, not help it. Flowmaster, magnaflow and pro-flow all have patents on various muffler baffle designs that are high flow and also well below the legal noise limits, even at WOT. Furthermore, that addition of a header means your choice of muffler is MORE important because of the change in exhaust gas flow out of the cylinders.

IMO, You need to talk to an exhaust shop to get the right setup. No offense to the members here but advice like "there is no way you can escape loudness" and "if you want quiet stay stock" is not advice you want to listen to. Also, you don't need to spend $500.
