Default Engine is on its way out, Should i buy it?

I have a chance to buy a 2000 elantra that was hit in the front end, I have a 99 tiburon and my engine is starting to tap and my transmission is already shot with no over drive. Its a 5 speed with 75k on it and I'm wondering if I can use all the stuff for the swap? Then eventually scrap the car. I can get the car reasonably cheap but will it be a straight drop in swap?

Both have beta 1 engine and trannys so it will be a 100% direct swap.

Aside from the hassle associated with removing stuff from a smashed-in front end, this is an ideal situation if the wrecked unit doesn't cost too much. Assuming the engine and transaxle are undamaged from the collision, you pop the axles, undo all the lines and cables, and it's plug and play. Pull the drivetrain from your car, the donor car, and then swap over the shifter cables and clutch hydraulics while you have the engine bay on your car empty. This is a huge bonus if it comes off as planned.

Chances are you'll need to buy/source transmission mounts. I seem to remember the autotragic uses different mounts than the 5-speed. Now, in theory you can use them from the donor elantra, but if that thing took a wack to the nose...there's no guarantee that those transmisison mounts are useable. Ditto on the front halfshafts(axles). However, if the nose wack was really fairly mild, you should be able to use 99.9% of the parts with no problem

Can always use the axles from the autotragic vehicle

If it makes you feel better, I have most of that stuff sitting here in my garage collecting dust. (just in case)

DO IT!
