Yeah, likely because the hardware in the ecu is the same, and only the tune is different.
Tried snagging the ecu from the 1.8 in the yard, crushed already...

I'm pretty much positive that the only difference between the 1.8 and 2.0 ECU's is the tune. Other reflashers would take either the 1.8 or 2.0 ECU's as a core and flash the 2.0 tune onto it.
Also, I was told that the 2.0 ECU from the GK Tiburons and XD Elantras were the same internally as the 1.6 ECU. Consider it a rumor though because I am not 100% sure. Pinouts are different but the connectors are the same. If a 2.0 tune could be flashed onto a 1.6l ECU that could make it easier to run the right tune on a Beta swapped Accent.

well i want to try swapping the ECU's first to see if i have an ECU problem....but after that i'd be happy to send the spare along the way. also don't want to send you a dud!

subscribed... i'm currently using my 1.8l ecu but have a 2000 or 1999 2.0l ecu and a 1999 1.5l ecu, all same form factor and pin out. would be interested if you could post/host the code somewhere to look at. i've swapped all three through my x3 on the 1.5l and the 2.0l beta motor with success. i had intentions of using the 1.5l ecu again on the beta swap when i increased boost (hoping it was tuned with less timing).

Looks like the original code was wrote in C, based on the way the program flow is, so when you move back down to assembly it can get confusing.
Add to that I don't have more than a partial schematic of the ecu, and half the glue logic is Bosch proprietary, and it gets even more confusing.
I can put that up on Google docs along with the processor datasheet and instruction set/architecture info sometime soon.

1.8 beta would be prefered, but any Beta1 ecu's would help.
It's a right pain in the arse to deal with these black-box style systems, that's for sure...
