Default dual exhaust on 2001 ?

I was just curious is it possible to have dual exhaust on the 2001 tibby?.....I asked the tech guy at hyundai, and he said no, cause of that lil french fry basket (filter) right there?.......has anyone else ever questioned this mod?......can this be done?.......or is this just a mere figure of our imagination?......or perhaps I have just entered the Twilight Zone..... eek! eek! ... TAHN TAHN TAHN..............

It would be ricey and pointless !
You have a one sided engine , not a V .
Just get a header and cat back system.
Trust me.

I was also wondering about that. I read a few posts about how you wouldn't have enough back pressure if you did this. But I noticed that the 2003 had a dual exhaust and I was wondering how that affects back pressure. Also I anyone is willing to take the time to explain in more detail about back pressure, I'd be greatful. Wanna learn as much as I can about my car.
BTW, I have a 2001 Tib, manual trans.

The discussion on backpressure and exhaust tuning is quite lengthy.

I suggest you read "modern engine tuning by A. Graham Bell. You'll not only learn about exhaust, but all sorts of other things car related.

A dual exhaust that seperates AFTER the rear axle is do-able, however, the added weight of the piping and the extra muffer means it would HINDER performance. Also...there is no cut out on the other side of the rear bumper...so where would you MOUNT/install the 2nd muffler?

Thanks Random, I will look for that book.
If I do decide to do this I'd most likely do it after I get a body kit which has an opening of some sort for the second muffle. ie. Zefiro (cept it hasn't been cut out)
BTW: what's the approximate weight dis. on the tib?

piping after the axel and a new muffler will add 15 lbs if that probably less

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>AzNxSandMan:

If you look under you car you will see if you wanted symetrical dual ext. you would be reqired to move a gas tank not an easy project an there is limited space... If you did decide to do so the cost of the project wouldn't increase preformance enough to matter. Look at it like this cost of project say 1000 dollars min... horses gained probally max of 6-10 if done with matched symetrical ext.... labor and time... just squees the bottle it would be quicker and gain oh about 5 times as much horses if you are libral with it... eather one will void warrenty but one is alot more fun

I understand that there would be little to no performance gains for a dual exhaust and it's only something I'm just thinking about doing. More for cosmetic reasons than any other. I kinda like the dual exhaust look.
Anyways, like I said it's only something I'm thinking about.
