Crackey Cylinder Head?
Called him today to see if it was the block or gasket...
not the block
he said not the gasket because theres no CEL, the engine isnt miss firing, no smoke in tailpipe, and in the water jacket the water and oil arent mixing.
He also said i can have a crack either on the intake side of the head or exhaust.
On the intake side it would suck up water and mix with the oil which he already said i dont have. then on the exhaust side it causes heat and pressure build up.
He put Aluma Seal and if enough of it reaches the crack he said its a permanant fix. and i picked it up friday and it has not over heated once. so im guessin that worked. but if anything seems suspicious ill go ahead and get a new one. but i also think im takin it to hyundai to have them test everything for any more problems i dont know of.

sounds to me like your mechanic was trying to get at your wallet. he probly just changed the thermostat.
if you have a blown head gasket or cracked head there is no simple fix. if you were geting exhaust into your water the car would shoot the water strait out the resivour. if you had a exhaust leak into your intake manifold then you got serious problems and your car wouldnt run. if you got water into your oil or vise versa you would see it. you don't have anything wrong with the car just a shady mechanic
if your gasket was blown it wouldnt exacly throw a cel
this guy is full of chit.
dam i wish i woulda read this earlyer.
but i really think he just changed the thermostat. how much did he get you for?

mother f*ckin SOB... lol sorry. but the damn thing just over heated on my way to work. WTF IS WRONG WTIH MY CAR GUYS?!? ill sit at a light for a minute or two then drive and itll rise. itll stay hot then eventually drop back down. this is REALLY pissin me off. and yea i think its bout time i get a new mechanic. im tempted to just buy a new head/gasket/etc and call it a day. any ideas or thoughts?
I think you need to check for air in your cooling system and if your fans are kicking in.
If there is air in your cooling system, it is forming a bubble in either the top of the head or in the radiator. this will stop flow at low RPMs and make the engine overheat. Once you top up the radiator.. you need to figure out where the coolant went. Could be a leak in any of the hoses, the waterpump, radiator, or even a bad radiator cap.
The other thing you need to check is see if the fans works. Next time the car overheats... click on your airconditioning to kick on that fan.. if it is a fan issue, that should drop the temps quickly.
Before you do that.. make sure that the air conditioning turns on the fans. When the car is still cool, turn on the air with the hood open and check to see that the fan kicks in. While you are there.. shut the air off and let the car idle up to operating temps.. as it begins to overheat.. see if the main cooling fan kicks in or not

its not the fans. fans kick on before it starts to rise...
Dont think its a leak either- no signs of any fluid any where...well read below lol
Total newbige right here-- in the container where the rad fluid is--it looks like some of it comes out because on the bottle there is crusted fluid and sometimes fresh fluid around the neck under the cap it looks like. granted i havnt checked in the past few days but i will again. could that be anything?
Possibilities...
Head gasket
cracked cylinder head(as told by my brilliant mechanic lol)
Clog
Bubble
Cap
Fans--X
Leak--X
Thermo--X Even though that was replaced like 2-3 months ago.
Fluid--X ive had this damn thing flushed so many times now cant be that
Bad Radiator
anything else please add lol

Is the coolant disappearing? If so and there is no leak it has to be either mixing with the oil in which case it will show up in th oil pan or be burning off in which case you would likely see white smoke out the tailpipe.
Is the water pump working?
Is the water pump working?
^^no idea on the water pump. how do i check that?
Question--would it be smarter to by a new head (valves etc) for 350 or an engine with less than 15000 for 850? lol im just always skeptical about used engines and parts is why im asking. anyone know where to get a used engine for cheaper though?

change the thermostat again and get a new radiator cap.
there is a weep hole on the botom of the water pump if its goin you will see water driping out or a green mess under there.
i think its the thermostat it doesnt matter how long ago u changed it you can buy a new one that doesnt work. also if it were a head gasket you would see either the water disapearing or oil in the water. if you have a air buble then when you changed the thermostat you put it in upside down so where the air can't escape.
get a new thermostat! or spend 500 to get a new head and gasket and if you don't do it yourself you will pay 1400+ so try the thermostat first.
