Well, I've had this Optima Blue Top in my car for about 6 years now, and never had one problem. About 2 weeks or so ago we had a really cold day, and the car would turn over, but not start. After about 2 minutes of trying to start it, it began to chug down, as if the battery was dead. Now the weather was like 35 degrees, and I've not had this problem before. I hooked up the jumper cables, and it started right away. 25 minutes later after I filled with gas and restarted the car, no problems at all. At the end of the day, when I went to drive home, you could tell it was worn down a bit again.

No lights on, no recent electrical work, just a dying battery I think.

This morning it happens again, but this time it's "click click click" instead of turning over. I jumped it with my jumper battery, and started right up, but again, this afternoon, it was a bit sluggish to start.

When driving, there are no issues at all.

Oh, I do have underdrive pullies, but what does everyone think? Time to replace the battery? I'm going to go get it tested too.

6 years is a nice looong battery life, pickup a new one.

Think my redtop only lasted 4 years, but we have much rougher winters up here, plus my alternator was shot as well, so I'm thinking that hurt the battery life some(couple years of only getting 1/2 the charge is was supposed to.)

Likely the battery man. Sucks that Optimas shot up so much in price also. I have a dead yellow top here thats about 4 years old. I hardly used it though which is why it died on me.

+1 for a dead battery. 6 years is ridonkulous long life, which is how you get what you pay for with an Optima.

Hmm. I'll get it tested still this week, and then go from there. I'll probably buy the same one again, I love the accessory terminals.

I had to replace my Optima as well before I came out for the BBQ and mine was only 1 year old! Dude at the parts store said they have been getting a LOT of returns. Wonder if Optima's quality control has suffered or they are just using sub par components and ripping people off by charging the same amount. They use to be the best on the market.....

make sure if you test the battery also test the alternator. my alternator went out about 6 months ago and i replaced it, everything was going great. and then my car was having the same issues, and i found out my old battery was dying. so i got a new battery, everything was fine but since the alternator was trying to charge the old dying battery, the alternator died again shortly after the new battery. just check everything when you're doing it smile.gif

you probably know this. sorry lol

Spidey brings up a good point. It would be wise to check both. I actually had the same thing happen a few years ago. Bat went out, and soon after, there went the alt. Its relatively painless to pull the alt, just inconvenient. If you can, have them both checked out.
