I say get a resonator, you will get annoyed by the sound without one.

Guys please stay on topic.

There is a reason that most cars come with a muffler AND a resonator. Generally, the further back your muffler is in the exhaust system, the louder it is going to be. To help with that, most car makers put a resonator about half way to the three quarter mark, it helps drastically.

what if to put mufler infront of the rear wheel?
Like DTM race cars

But it would be a PITA to do body work to fit it.

Hmm, I've never heard of anyone with a Tib trying to do that. I know that there are guys with v8's who have mounted the muffler right under the driver's seat. If you were to mount a muffler behind the rear wheels, it would have to be place somewhere directly underneat the rear seats. Probably be very loud as the sound would resonate inside the car.

I have a glasspack right after the cat, but if I wanted it could be replaced by a "tight fit" flowmaster muffler. The only thing is they are expensive 02.gif

My Dad's Nova has four mufflers... two inline on each pipe of the dual exhaust. It did wonders for quieting it. Its actually fairly quiet, if you can call a built 427 quiet... lol.gif

For a Tib, that would be overkill and would restrict flow too much. However, putting one muffler in-line with the piping in place of the resonator would work just as well. You would need a baffled one though... a straight-thru would be pointless as thats basically a resonator.

2kshark: This thread is for an RD1 Tibby, but the ARK should show the same gains on an RD2.

Most people who put in/buy an exhaust without a resonator later go back to mount one in unless it's a track car. Also if you put in headers you definitely need a resonator if you don't want a big buzz.
