I didn't have time to play around in my valve cover. When i took the cover off, it was hot, then when it cooled off, it started to rain. I hear you're supposed to push on something to test the HLAs. I don't know what it is or which direction. Here's some pix of my engine bay. Can someone point out what's supposed to happen at this point?

its the things that push up the cams

so the metal caps right under the cams

thanks faith.... so do i just pull the cams and then pull those little things out and soak them in ATF if they move?

soak them all anyways just to be sure...

and yes you use one of those pen magnet things (thats what ive used in the past)

yes, the HLAs are the "pots" that the cam lobes ride on. If you can budge them at all with your fingers, they are probably bad.

I had my Valve Cover off last week to paint it and was looking for the HLA's aswell but wasn't sure what I was looking for. Is this them?

Make sure you know how to put the cams back and the retainers in the right order.
