1. Well I bought an OEM fuel filter from the dealership around here, and when I started dissassembling mine, I noticed the tops are different. I checked part numbers and the numbers matched.WTF?

The new filter as you can see has a hexagone 19mm. The old one doesnt. And the base is round. In my shop manual it shows my exact setup I have on the car, but when I searched I read people had the hex on top. I'm confused...

2. I can't for the life of me take the bottom fuel line off. It's a tight sqeeze and I can't even seem to budge it. I even called my old man over to give me a hand.

I remember when I did mine, the bottom fuel line was a b**** to get off. not sure what to tell you about the filter. I got mine from Checker Auto Parts. Worked like a charm. Good luck with it! fing02.gif

holy crap was it a pain in the ass. i ended up stripping the bottom nut, so i had to use some vise grips and put all the muscle i got into the thing to keep it from leeking.

some have said its easy if you get a flared wrench. its like the closed end of the wrench, with a bit cut out of it to get it around say, wires or tubing.

flair or Line wrench is indispensible when working fuel or brake lines.

And I cannot say I have ever changed by fuel filter... 112,000 miles and going strong.. heh, I can be a lazy bastard sometimes.

Flared wrench, I will give that a shot but what about the top of the fuel filter. It's not the same.

The hex nut that you are showing on the new one points down when it is installed. Show us a pic of the other end of the new filter. It should look the same as the one on your car with a hole for the fuel line and one for the bolt.
