Default CAI Question

Well i was looking around on the net the other day and came across something that you would put in or around the CAI so that if you went thru a puddle, etc. it would close or somehow stop the water from getting in your intake. I was @ work and a customer came in, left my pc, when i came back it was gone.... (cant do history on work pcs either already tried that)

Does anyone know the name of this beast or where i can get one(it was like 15 bucks or so)? 15 Now is better than 500 later, when my engine gets fvcked cause of water.

Also does this thing decrease performance at all? thnx.

Yes it decreases performance... and to hydrolock your engine you would have to be driving during a tsunami or trying to cross a river.

Do you have 1 foot of water on your roads? Then you will not be needing a bypass. I've had a CAI for 3 years, and I even drove through the worst of rain storms and no wated ended up in my motor.

Avoid puddles and you should be fine even puddles don't have much of a threat..unless they are 1foot deep.

well i'm just freaking out b/c one of my buddies just fvcked his engine. Just don't want anythng happening to my tib. I mean he did drive thru a HUGE puddle, but it wasn't like a lake or anything lol.

I guess I'll just try to avoid driving in the rain at all, period.

If you are really that worried about intaking more than a safe level of water, you could try getting yourself a heat shield. I don't think it will decrease performance like a bypass valve, but personally I don't think it is worth the money for it, but it would offer a little bit more of a safegaurd.

I see that you are in Rochester, and I think you have fairly similar climate and precipitation as I get in Kzoo. You should be just fine, just don't plow through deep puddles. Avoid them, and you should be fine. The spray from the road has never done anything to mine.
