CAI filters
thanks guys, my car goes in to shop next week for gauge work, ill tell him 2 wash it lol, so your sure piping is 3 inches, cuz i mite get a new one for summer....
Just pick one up from the auto parts store. For the most part they're universal. Ive had a lot of different brand filters on my CAI. But most stores will let you return it if it doesnt fit.
Did you ever take Geometry? Measure the circumference of the pipe (wrap the tape around the pipe or if you cant do that, take a string and wrap it around the pipe and mark it. Then measure the string). Divide that by 3.14. You now know the diameter of the pipe wink.gif
if your willing to spend the money, buy an apex-i filter. its a dry type cone filter, meaning theres no oil involved to help catch debris so it will breath better and they last a LONG time to. all you do is bang out the debris rinse it clean and slap it on again.

huh?
if your trying to figure out the diameter, why would you do it the hard way?
:?
You simply measure the diameter (top to bottom), best way is to use a calliper.
Done.
Anyway, Since we are talking math,... How about some trigonometry i use at work, hehhe tongue.gif
Such as,... How to surface grind an angle to an accurate height.
45 degrees divided by 2 = 22.5
22.5(tan)= 0.4142"
[.500" dowel diameter] divided by 2 = .250"
0.250" divided by Tan (0.4142") = 0.6035"
.250" + 0.6035" + [Height of desired intersect point] = your answer
Example:
0.250" + 0.6035" + 1.5 = 2.3535
Measure total height from the top of the 1/2" dowel with an indicator or height gauge.
0.7071 X [how much your over the intersect finish height]
example:
0.7071 X 0.021" = 0.0148"
simply place on Sine bar (5.000" in lengh) and do the math:
45 (Sine) = 0.7071 X 5. = 3.5355 [this is your gauge block height]
you must then grind (or machine/mill) 0.0148" to reach the desired height of the angle.
Easy as pie!! LOL
this is'nt even that hard, compared to some other things I must make in a days work as a Tool & Die maker wink.gif
Way off topic, but hey, everybody else does it wink1.gif
