Question brake light remains on...

so tonight i pull in to the drive way, get out and notice the brake lights are on... wtf ? i get under the dash starting inspecting, and find that the foot on the brake pedal arm lost its little pad that touches the switch... wtf is with my baby lately, just giving me little problems like every month lately.

so i jammed a pencil in between the switch and the foot temporarily, looks like i will have to use a nut and bolt to recreate the little pad that was in there... and i couldnt find it anywhere on the floor ? FML.

simple solution-... undo that hanress for the brake light switch.

loosen the nut on the housing twist so that the housing is 1/8" closer to the pedal (making up the thickness of the button).

replug harness and test to see if brake light is off. if not off twist more!

if all is well, back the nut down on the sensorto prevent it from wiggeling.

and done

tru, thought of that, but that foot that holds the pad, has a hole in it, do you think that the switch might go through the hole ? or cause uneven wear on the tip of the switch if it hits the side of the hole ??? idk, just saying, im gonna attack this first thing in the morning. but i just might go your route if i see that the hole in the foot does not line up with the switch. thanks for tip !

The pad that actuates the brake switch is missing? Disintegrated with age. Not even $$ at the dealership when mine needed replacement. Check the pad on the clutch pedal while you're under there. Temporary (or ghetto permanent) fix is a bit of anything taped in place over the hole. Radiator or garden hose come to mind as particularly suitable materials.

Put some rubber hose on it. (I am kidding.. lol)

Hope you get it fixed for cheap. Little stuff like that sucks. My XD started that a little, but I was driving it 4 hours a day or more in a horrible commute (before I bought my house)

fuel hose right ?? LOL.

this will be fixed in minutes... this reminds me of a time when i found this same problem on my friends nissan 240, he had take the starter out, and checked wires, and was in the "do it your self hobby shop" on the navy base for hours when i rolled in and told me he couldnt get the engine to start ! his whole front end was in pieces... i did my initial inspect and found the switch for the clutch has the same setup we do, and same thing, the little rubber pad had fallen off and the switch was going through the hole where the pad should have been... LOL. he was so pissed that i found it in seconds !!! so i slapped him and kicked him the nuts.... nah, jk...

but actually a piece of hose might do the trick now that i think about it !

lol no-... there will be no abnormal wear on the switch.

if you're that paranoid epoxy a couple of dimes to the pedal in the plastic pieces place-... but i think even that is more trouble than it's worth.

fixed it ! i couldnt find the "pad" anywhere in the interior !! the Tiburon ate it ! so i dug around my box of goodies and found a plastic pop rivet that fit the hole perfect !!! it was one similiar to this the total depth of it was a perfect match so i didnt have to adjust the switch at all to get a perfect contact either !
