my alternator went, and i charged my battery for a full day+night, thinking that it would keep enough charge to get me to school and back the following day. everything was fine in the morning, but afterwards it wouldn't turn over. so now my car is stuck in the parking lot, and i have no idea how to charge it enough to make a 2 mile drive home...any ideas?
if i got a jump and left it charge on another car's batt. (for how long?) do you think it would make it?
im getting the alternator rebuilt on wednesday..

If you charge it off of another cars batt you run the risk of a BOOM. That is totally not safe! Short of running an extension cord from a building and letting it charge you are pretty much stuck till you get the alternator. The stock battery doesn;t like being run completly dry too many times so be careful you dont kill it too.

Yeah man, and chances are that if you actually do get it started, it won't get you far. My alternator went and all my interiors died, then I started bogging out, stalling and slowing down. It's no good man, you need an alternator.

i would need a pretty long extension coord....
damnit.
and it isn't COMPLETELY dry, i still have interior lights and the annoying dinger sound when your key is in the ignition and the door is open, but it hardly turns over at all. and it would really suck to have to take off and replace my alternator in the snow in a parking lot, not to mention leaving it there for 2 days..
all i really want to do is to get it home, only about a 2mile drive, and if i do it before night i won't need to run any lights.

If you have a buddy with a tow rope and a truck/jeep you could always just pull it. Since it is only 2 miles it wont be too bad.... A friend and I have pulled a car a lot longer than 2 miles when it wouldn't start lol.gif
