Is there any sensors that go on the front of the car to trigger the air bags??? If so where are they located? If not, then how are the air bags triggered when you hit someone or something.

I have my car completely apart in the front and I was wondering the same thing because my car was smashed and no airbag went off, but maybe it wasnt a hard enough impact.

I would have expected there to be something behind the bumper at least but I looked all over and didn't see anything that would be a sensor or wiring for them.

My mechanic wasn't even sure where they were I asked him because I didn't want to screw something up and set the air bag off.

I think it might be one main sensor that registers the impact but i'm probably wrong.

There is a big black rebar that is behind the bumper, when it's pushed in hard enought the air bags deploy.g

OK, so the sensor is part of it? Or behind it? Could I take it off one car and put it on another or would the whole piece need to be swapped. And Im sure youre talking about the thick plastic piece right?

Anyone have any pictures of this rebar...do you mean the bumper reinforcement??? So the sensor is in there. My air bags came out. I got used ones to put in it. What do I need to do to the front to make the new ones work?? Dont wanna get hit and them not come out.

Bandity,

There are not sensors on the front. The accelerometer is built into the modulator. It works similairly to shoulder strap on seatbelt except more complex. There is a sensor monitoring deceleration that triggers power to the airbag in a sudden accident.

Replace the airbags and modulator.. you will be good to go.
