This debate could go on for days. It boils down to what you want to do and were do your goals lie. They both will control nicely and are a lot alike from the sounds of it. However if you are looking to pass emissions and dont want to have to do a lot to get the car running "the easier way out" then the FIC is for you . Just make sure to take your time while wiring the FIC to the ecu harness because if you mess it up emissions passing will be the last of your worries and that low 14 sec 1/4 mile isn't happening. Megasquirt pnp isn't hard to put in and if you actually want to get to know your car and get every last bit of horse power out of it, know matter what, then this is the one for you . Oh and as far as fuel mapping goes there is a high resolution code you can load if you want and or you can set the fuel mapping up to switch between vacuum and boost. Thats one map for vacuum and a whole other map for the boost. The megasquirt is open source which means always bettering itself and free to do. And do it can anything you need to . For instance lets say I decide to motor swap , again my goals are high, I decide to drop in a genesis v8 in for sh*ts and giggles, the same megasquirt ecu that ran the beta will run a fuel inj. v8 if needed . So if you want to be fast, FIC is for you but if you want to be really fast and have the last ecu you will ever need then, megasquirt is it. Megasquirt can do anything you need to if you have the drive to get there. The fastest RD's out there are or dsm or any other car manufactures all running full standalone ecu's coincidence? Lead the race for Hyundai dont follow the pack . My 2 cents.

I agree. There are TONS of FI cars running Megasquirt with very good results. Just because only a few Tiburon guys have it, dont let that worry you. I highly reccomend the MS. I have never used a FIC before but the plug and play option couldnt be easier with the MS and as mentioned it will basically tune itself if you set it all up right.

a) definitely do what everyone else is saying, and pick the one to better meet your goals and future with the car

b) don't hurry to make a decision, like you said it's the most important part by far

c) i hope everything works out for you, i've been following your turbo build and i'm excited to see how it turns out fing02.gif

you pm'ed me a while back asking me if i could walk you through the install.
i installed the aem fic myself with no time at all, and i and many others can help you through the process if you choose such route.
obdII readings are important and i recommend aem fic.

It depends on what you want out of the car whether OBD2 matters or not. I dont have a lot of the stock stuff as far as evap goes and that so OBD reading mean nothing to me. The readings that are important will be on my laptop (and eventually carputer) I dont have emissions here and dont care about the OBD2 portion.

It fully comes down to your goals. End of story.

Wow, didnt expect this much support for this topic. The thought of controlling everything like Redz said sounds great. Main reason for wanting the FIC is because its cheaper and it seems more ppl have it here. MS on the other hand is a breeze to install and you can control a crap load more. Really my goals are 250-300hp. Im only using a to4e on like 10-12psi so I might be lucky to hit 250hp. (some ppl say my turbo is too big) Curse hyundai's restrictive heads. lol.

For some reason I want launch control, like bad. Is it something I really need? Does the FIC offer it? I mean of course Id love to go bigger sometime down the road so maybe the MS would be great. Last time I checked, the MS can support any kind of injector as long as it will plug in. Nice. Its jus so frustrating when both sides look appealing to me. grr.

Yeah, OBDII is important if you don't know your car, in my opinion now at least. I know the things to look at if my car is acting funnny, and I know what problems usually lead to what. If nothing else, the fact that you can look at any sensor any way you want, is just as good. You see your IAT sensor is reading -17 degrees in the summer, go look at your IAT and wiring. Your TPS is giving off funky readings, go check it out.

For example, I don't know enough about the 3.5L in my Sorento, so the OBD is useful there, but for my Tiburon, I can figure it out myself pretty easy, and all that came from working on my own car and listening to everyone on this site for 6 years.

So the MS lacks OBDII then right? But you said that you can have a shift light? Hmm sounds interesting. I might as well spend the extra money and do it right the first time. *bends over for the expense* lol.

you can also run the ms and controll everything like a standalone without removing the ecu and obdII compliance
