Other than weight reduction, are there any advantages to removing power steering for race applications? Or is it always better to have power steering when racing?

Without the pump on the engine there is less load on the engine because it doesn't have to turn the pump. I like the feel of no power steering the car seems more responsive and you have more control over the car.

It's easier to sense how much aligning torque is coming at you through the steering wheel when it's manual. If you're a city courier OR doing the tightest of autocross OR have a heavy car with wide tyres then I'd think twice.
My X3 has manual steering, power steering rack, caster bushes, and 195 section tyres and it isn't a problem at all. Parking kinda sucks but it's something you get used to within a day.

I can't imagine a Tib without ps would be much of a chore. The RDs are fairly light cars and unless yous boosted there's not much torque to overcome. My MR2 and my 944 are both manual steering and I
