Acceleration Sensor

As shown in the pic the sensor is pointed right, mine on the other hand is pointed foreword, any problems with this like so? its been like this always, i just recently installed a front strut bar so i was wondering if this was a problem.

There are 2 or 3 different sensors.
1 is faced to the side like mine in the pic above. The others face to the front. Just make sure they are in the SAME ORIENTATION after you install your strut bar.
You'll notice in that same DIY I have a writeup on how to use the OEM mount to keep your sensor in the correct orientation and not interfear with your strut bar.

You probably have that sensor, it's just in a different location. Unless your ECU/Engine combo doesn't have a knock sensor either.
The ECU uses the Acceleration sensor to determine if a "noise" heard via knock sensor is really "engine knock" or just a bump in the road. If both sensors (Acceleration and Knock) signal an event, the ECU filters it out as 'road noise'. If ONLY the knock sensor signals an event, the ECU retards the timing and keeps retarding the timing until the signal stops, or until the signal is recorded by both sensors.
If you alter the orientation of that sensor, or rubber mount it, or mount it in such a way that it is "cushioned" from the shock sent via the wheels to the strut to the chassis... you will be down on HP as the ECU will be needlessly retarding your timing. It is CRITICAL and VITAL that the Acceleration sensor be HARD MOUNTED to the strut tower, or as close to the Strut tower as possible.
As far as I have been able to tell, 97-00 received the "forward" pointing sensor. Sometime mid 00 they changed to the Lateral facing sensor. I've seen some 00's that point forward, and some that point sideways, but I've never seen a 01 that points forward. They are also different part numbers. My memory tells me that they are also made by different companies, but I'm not 100% confident in that.
Folks should post up their part numbers and who makes the sensor, and the direction that their sensor is facing and the Manufacture date of the car (not model year, manufacure date on the door plackard) in case folks need to re-orient their sensor and their's not sure which version they have.
I'm still convinced on of the reasons my 99 Tibby posted such pathetic Dyno numbers stock was because I installed a SR strut bar, and moved that sensor, and rubber mounted it (DOH!). When I put that sensor back to it's proper position and hard mounted it, it felt like I picked up 10 HP. It was a HUGE difference.
One of these days, when I either open my own shop, I'm going to spend about 3 weeks straight dynoing out different stuff. This is one of them! (it's not gonna happen any time soon folks, so don't hold your breath)

My car is MAP... and the sensor is like in front of the passenger side.... near the Chasis Number. It points forward and is totally horizontal. But the matter of fact is that I don't know (or have seen) the knock sensor

Tony, when AJ comes over with his RD this week I'll get Part #'s and MFR's for both of ours. Mine is the one in the pic above, his is a forward facing sensor.



Is it ok?
